Hi all, sorry I don't know enough about Fenders in general to really know what to look for here, though it looks pretty safe from what I can tell.

I have the opportunity to pick up an apparent Custom Shop Deluxe Stratocaster from a deceased estate sale. The asking price is too good to pass up. I have linked all the photos I have access to. I will not be able to inspect it in person before purchase as it is some distance from me and will be shipped. I realise it's a little rough in places, light scratches in the finish, fretboard could use some TLC and fret markers etc, but all this is fine to me.

The documentation and case etc all looks to be correct as far as I can tell. Do any of you Fender gurus have any insight as to whether or not this is a genuine custom shop?

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.

Bird's-eye maple neck, one-piece ash body, COA and factory hang tags......I'd say it's authentic but a serial-number check through Fender Customer Relations would confirm the pedigree.

Yes, it looks genuine.

Although there is a difference to my 2012 Custom Deluxe by way of the relieved neck heel. My one doesn't have that; just the standard squared-off heel. Bit strange, but then with Fender - who knows...?!

Cheers - Peter.

That's strange Peter. Both 2011 and 2012 Custom Deluxe strats had the easy access heel as specified on the custom shop retired models page.
The one pictured above looks ok. :D

My COA's not readily to hand, but it's very similar to OP's. Here's a pic of my Custom Deluxe, bought new from Guitar Village in Surrey (GB) - so it's presumably authentic! Cheers - Peter.

Well there is no disputing that.
I have earlier ones e.g 2009,2010 with the square heel but all the 2012 series I have seen including one I owned had an easy access heel.
Browsing the web I see one or two with a square heel but maybe for that year the exception rather than the rule.
Does yours have abby pus?
I suspect you have a special edition from that year.
What does your serial return?
Apologies to op for thread hijack :D

No problem for me, Jimmy - always happy to discuss Strats!!!

Pups are TS at the bridge, and CS69's neck and middle.

From Fender's serial number checker...

CUSTOM DELUXE STRATOCASTER® (2009)
Serial #: R51545
Brand: Fender Custom Shop
Product Category: Guitars

Digging my COA out from deep in my loft (as you sparked my curiosity!), it says Feb 26th, 2010, so you're right - it's an earlier one.

Sorry - I was pretty sure it was a 2012, probably because that's when I recall buying it. There were several Custom Deluxes in the shop, I picked this one because of the Fiesta Red!

Out of interest, I assume there's a reason why OP's serial number has no 'R' prefixing the number? Not that Fender needs a reason, in my experience...!

Cheers - Peter.

Thanks Peter …. likewise always happy to talk.
The serials were funny from this period and the guitar will not appear in the serial search unless XN is put before it. I had the same issue with one I had. :D
