Hey, JC: several months ago you were asking lots of questions about guitars such as the Clapton, Knopfler and such. Did I miss it - did you finally buy yourself a Strat? If so, which one did you plump for?

To the question: I haven't seen those particular pickups for sale, but that doesn't mean much. You are likely going to have to ask an authorised Fender dealer...

Cheers - C

i'd investigate seymour duncans pickups, purely for the fact that jeff beck gave a lot of input into sound requirments. Not the jb, although jeff beck did use it alittle. JB stands for jazz blues. Its not his signature pickup.

Hi Ceri,
Thanks for your reply.I'm still shopping for a good fender & hope to get one by thanksgiving.Although tone matters to me a lot,to me the neck feel matters the most, cuase whn you get into a good flow while playing, even a bad sounding guitar can sound good. These days even the squires have a pretty decent sound although I am looking only for an American Strat. Some of the top models I'm looking are not available in stores.Like the J B signature & Mark Knofler. So before I buy anything I would like to try them out so I dont regret investing the money.I tried the 2008 std American Strat & they seem pretty good as far as neck feel.I would like to get something near to the tone of EJ or Jeff.DO you know if Eric Johnson Strat pups are sold separately?

I had to check the specs to see what pickups are being used in the current Jeff Beck Signature strat (model 011-9600). It says
Quote:
Further, it’s “Wired” with Fender Special Design dual-coil ceramic Noiseless™ pickups and straight-ahead five-way switching.

The Custom Shop version (model 015-0083) seems to have the same pickups (at least the same names is given on the spec sheets, I didn't check the parts lists to see if the part numbers are the same).

The Eric Johnson pickups aren't offered separately. You'll have to check Ebay for them, too.

The PU's that jeff beck uses are Hot Noiseless, designed for him, you can find them anywhere that sells Vintage Noiseless

On the EJ pickups: I am sure those ones are not sold seperately. Johnson did a lot of work with the Custom Shop to get those pickups exactly the way he wanted them; sourcing very particular coated copper wire for the winding, for example. In return for their effort Fender would like you to buy the whole guitar in order to get the pickups.

However, there are certain people who buy new guitars, take them apart and sell all the bits seperately on Ebay, and I have seen EJ pickup loaded pickguards from time to time. I believe a seller called Stratosphere is sometimes a good bet...

Of course, that means that someone else will be buying an EJ neck on its own, and someone else again an EJ body. Can't imagine why someone would want one of those elements without the other, but there you go... Watch and wait and you will likely find your pickups.

(Someone once posted here complaining bitterly that it would cost more to purchase all the parts seperately on Ebay than to simply buy a new guitar... Which, of course, from the vendor's point of view, is exactly the point!!)

Cheers - C

It's too bad you can't get the EJ pups. That neck pup, based on a '54 alnico 3, is fantastic!

You can buy a set of the Hot noiseless as compared to just the noiseless. The (hot) noiseless are sold in a set of 3 and give a more warmer distortion.

FYI: the hot noiseless are the jeff beck inspired noiseless. the others are vintage noiseless that are basically the normal strat single coils, only... well, noiseless.

The (Hot) Noiseless will give you more distortion.
