Greetings all. I would like to mod my strat 5 way switch as follows. Neck, neck/middle, middle, bridge, and leave the fifth dead to act as a kill switch. Does anyone know the procedure for this or where I might locate a schematic that shows what I would need to do. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Because of the nature of the switch I am not sure that is possible. Perhaps if you were to modify the switch traces but I'm struggling to see how that would work. By cutting the traces you might be able to kill position 2 perhaps.

What do you want a kill switch for?

+1

Most Strat players find rolling the volume control to "0" is satisfactory for this purpose.

If you're after stuttering effects you need to fit a killpot https://shadowelectronics.com/products/sh-124

IMO, you can do what you want with the switch.
I just have to do a sketch when I have some times I don't know when :( and post here.

It's not a simple wiring issue.
You'd need to modify the contact wiper, and if you do that something you want to work no longer will.

1-Read my first answer. ( need time to do )
2- Few times in the past I tell "how to " to help some forum member and ...they change their mind :(

Udate ; I'm wrong , you are right.

Problem is we can't remove Middle/ Bridge contact / position.

If OP want neck, neck-midle, middle , midle -bridge, kill all. We can with standard 5 way switch.
Maybe with the Super Swich we can do the mod.

My starting point is a question.
What is different between a 3 way switch and 5 way switch?
The answer is very little.
There is a physical stop position for the between pickup positions with the 5 way switch, but otherwise nothing else.
You can still get in between pickup selections with the 3 way switch.

If the OP didn't have a requirement to use the middle position it would be a piece of cake to wire a kill position on a 3 way switch.

I agree.

It is not "easy" ( not as fast as with the 5 ways ) to go in the middle position with a 3 way

That's why I posted a picture of the switch.
Don't worry about it - we all make mistakes, and I'm certainly not immune from it.
I put my foot in it plenty of times.

The killswitch thing was something I became aware of with my son's first electric (Epiphone SG Special)

I would start with properly identifying the switch positions. For standard Strat wiring, position 1 is toward the output jack, and is usually the bridge pup. Position 5 is toward the neck, and is usually the neck pup.

You will need to install a super switch to do what you want with the switch only. Adding a kill pot, or a separate toggle switch as a kill switch, with the standard switch and wiring would work also.

Back to basics.
No, the stock Fender 5-way can not be wired to do this.
By nature of the switch design, you get "Pickup A", "Pickup A+B", "Pickup B", "Pickup B+C", and "Pickup C"
You can not separate positions 2 and 4 from the X+Y condition without eliminating one of the three pickups.
The switch itself is a double-wafer, 2P3T switch with shorting contacts and added stop points between the non-shorted stops.

You CAN do what you want with a Superswitch.
