I am new to this forum and new to purchasing guitar parts, so I would really appreciate some help with the following.

I purchased this today from a guy who had hundreds of fascinating stories to tell - ony of the most interesting characters I have ever met. I bought a Telecaster neck at the same time. Both had belonged to his father. He was uncertain as to the history of the Strat body, but I do have a bit of history on the neck. I will post my questions about the neck in the Telecaster forum.

I have no reason to believe that this body is a fake, but I would like to know a bit about it from the experienced folk on the forum. I'm pretty sure that the pickups are not original as the solder job is not what I would expect from the factory. Even if the body is a fake, I paid less for this than what I would have expected to pay for a set of Custom Shop pickup. Aside from learning about the history, I want to learn what I need to know about fitting a neck to this body so that I have a playable guitar.

I have taken a buch of photos of it - far too many to post here, so I have uploaded them to OneDrive. Here is the link:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!Aj6LtQnf_cKrjPgXwzbjkeaW6JEskQ?e=4h2etn

As this is my first time on the forum, I don't know if external links will be stripped out of my post. If so, I will post another message with a few of the images added directly to the post.

Hopefully a few people out there can help.

Michael

IMHO Looks like cs texas special pickups but the rest is a bunch of parts of unknown origin.
Initially though it was a freeflyte hard trem but I do not think so.
I could be wrong of course! :D

Looks like the body is from one of these https://reverb.com/item/19283290-fender ... 610-gigbag

That's a good catch, stratmangler - kudos.

The promised post on the Telecaster section hasn't yet shown up. Could it be that the Tele neck in question is actually a Squier Bullet neck, maybe without the original logos?

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

I spent a few hours online last night and I think I found what I actually have. This is the closest thing I can find: https://reverb.com/item/9050466-fender-1983-stratocaster-two-knob

There was one listed last night (no longer there) that had exactly the same bridge as the one on mine.

The pickups in the (partial ) guitar that I have are clearly not the originals, but the rest of it seems to match the Reverb listing above. I have found several other examples of "1983 Dan Smith Two Knob" that seem to match what I have. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have not yet had time to photograph the neck and post it on the Telecaster forum. I will try to do that tonight.

I'm inclined to to think what you actually have is a Squier as per the link by Stratmangler. The bridge is identical and the neck pocket is square not rounded.

While a rare MiA would be a find in this instance I would say it isn't.

The pickguard shape on yours is not the same as the 1983 two knob Strat. The Strat guard is also an 11 screw one.
Another thing to consider is the shape of the neck where it joins the body.
Strat necks have a shallow curve, Tele necks are pretty square.

Yep well spotted Chris. Definitely the Squier. Almost looks like a Japanese version of those Dan Smith era strats.
Those squiers just keep coming in various shapes and sizes! :D

Electronic are a part caster;

Good ( Fender ? ) pickups selector
cheap output jack and pots
Poor wiring by a beginner
Pickups look good ones

Body and neck ; you receive some right answer

Thanks everyone for your great feedback. It looks like I have Squire body with CS Pickups - possible Texas Specials and a few miscellaneous parts throw in for good measure. I neck for this guitar might be a Squire neck or possibly a Telecaster neck (will that even work).

So, for about the price of a used set of CS pickups, I get a (badly) wired Strate project body with pickups, hardware and electronics, waiting for a neck. Not any real financial value to it (was never intended to be) that will be a bit of fun.

As promised, I have posted photos of the Telecaster neck on the Telcaster forum.

https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=118117

The thread has the same title as this one "What Did I Buy?"

Thanks again everyone for your help.

Likewise... the 2-knob Fender also has the 4-bolt neck with a micro-tilt... OP's body lacks that.
I agree that it is a Squier.
Note the lack of shielding foil on the bottom as well.
Not sure what to make of that. The switch and pots are not typical Squier, but the pickguard is definitely specific to that model with the extension below the jack and is not a conventional Strat plate that was installed with the pickups.

So now that it has been established that it is a Squier body and the neck pocket is square. I guess I need to find a neck that matches. Is that going to be a tough thing to do?

This disturbs me!
Why is there a wooden plug in place of what should be a metal anchor?

Image

The tuner screw holes are in just the place they would be for the nasty tuners found on the lower priced Squiers.

Image

And this is one such set of tuners

So this keeps getting worse.

It seems that I have paid $500 CAD for some next to worthless parts.

An expensive lesson learned.
