do you happen to have any examples tips to improve the technique?
I did try to search the net but did not find anything specific to this. Strat is so much better playing instrument. I can play this for hours, if I had time, without a fatigue.

Thanks again

ok well the fact that its not tiring you leads me to believe your halfway there already, heres some pointers, i am however self taught and others could probably advise you better.

1, Keep you touch light, dont expend more energy than you need to. Playing acoustic tends to give you massive finger muscles due in part to heavier string gauges. You dont need to hold electric guitar strings the same way. Be as light as possible with your fingers whilst still holding the note in a possitive way.

2, try and keep a good thumb position, dont try to wrap your thumb over the top of the fretboard if your not ready for it. Try and keep your thumb somewhere near the top quater of the back of the neck. This will help your fingering and help you fret notes with the tips of your fingers rather than the flat of them.

3, practice vibrato techniques, this will help sustain more than anything when your playing notes correctly. this vid has soom good pointers

on a side note make sure you have the volume knob on the guitar set to 10, turn down on the amp if its too loud.
Dont be afraid to make mistakes, if you dont make em you cant learn by em.

i have the same problem with sustain- i know its volume though. i only leave it no more than 3. Pretty loud for my bedroom.

WHat amazes me with sustain is hendrix's machine gun.

that part where he hits the high note, bends it and holds it forever with the univibe goin... awesome.

Also doesn't feedback help sustain?

Yeah you can try new pickups or strings. strings affect sustain a lot.

watch this youtube video of hendrix's machine gun. go to 4;21 and you'll see what i mean.

vibrato helps sustain a little.

hope i helped.

The reason Hendrix held sustains forever on Machine Gun with the Univibe going is because his Marshalls were cranked to 10 and on top of that he was also using a Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face which will give you endless sustain. The Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face is discontinued and no longer made but thanks to Dunlop you can buy one today. They make it to the original circuit right down to the same exact specs. & looks of the original Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face. There's no way you can get a sustain or hold a note that long without the fuzz. Especially if your amp setting are only set to 3!

certain amps have a knob for sustain, like mine. it's a line 6 III and i think that almost amps of line 6 have that knob

I use a Line 6 Spider III head with my Strat (there is no 'sustain' knob, though..). When overdriven and with no outside effects, I get massive Santana-esque sustain on my MIM ... even at low volumes.

But I can plug other guitars in there and not get nearly as much sustain. As I stated in an earlier post, a major ingredient to the sustain formula is the guitar itself. Some got it, and some not as much. At least that's my opinion..
