I recently purchased A stratocaster with serial number EE109...
Did some of these come stock with a humbucker?
My humbucker has a bar code and number 0060091-000

Also I heard rumors that the custom shop may have built some of these.
How could I tell?

Finally The neck has initials EG .
Pick guard sticker
assembled: C U
inspected: MN

Any info you all have is greatly appreciated.

Thanks! have a great day!

Hi, and sorry for the very late answer.

AFAIK, the HSS versions of US made Strats weren't available in the era (end-of-eighties-ish) when the mysterious EE serialed guitars were made.
So I think a humbucker in an EE-Strat would be a mod. Some forum experts might be able to help further, with high-res pics of the electronics, solderings and wiring.
The humbucker number (0060091000) is Fender Hot Rod Humbucker, wide version, which was used in e.g. Highway One series HSS.

Those initials belong to factory workers, but it's rare to find info on the full names. Unsung heroes...

Thanks for the response!
I did find some other EE serial numbers that are HSS, one of them claiming to be stock.

Here are some photos of mine:

First, I'm not trying argue here.

But if that's original, the "common knowledge" about Fender's first HSS Strats is wrong.
The soldering looks very clean/new for a 1987 job, and the neck (yellow/black) and mid (red/black) wires are a very odd color combo for a Strat.
I can't remember a barcode sticker on the earliest Fender humbuckers, they usually have just white marker numbers. Otherwise, the looks fit several Fender humbuckers (and anyways, Fender has had different names for one same humbucker...).
You could check with Fender Consumer Relations (via support pages email or the wonderful chat service there) if they can ID that barcode number to some pickup type.

Here's a couple earlier topics on the early Fender HSS guitars:

The humbucker bar code is 0060091000 which is "Pickup, Bridge, Hot Rod Wide, HB" as used in the Highway 1 HSS. Fender described it as the Atomic in the 2007 Frontline catalog. The single coils have the same wire colors as the Hwy 1 middle and bridge. The handwritten part number for the pickups is not the same as the service diagram but are probably different because of the black covers.
I have a Hwy 1 SSS pickguard image from 2007 which has the same MN inspection signature.

The date codes on the potentiometers may give some indication of the date of manufacture.

I had that Hot Rod in mind, too. It's in the HighwayOne Strat 2003 service diagram, and with a different number on the AmDlx Fat Strat service diagram from 2000.
Even the earlier one leaves a thirteen years empty space to 1987, so I'm still very doubtful on the electronics being original.

Any guesses on those neck & mid pups - the wire colors don't fit anything I can remember..?

Apologies, I was in the middle of adding more info and didn't see your post.
The single coils were AlNiCo 3 and the same part number but with different wire colors for N,M & B. The SSS has white pickup covers and the HSS black which is probably why the hand written part numbers don't match.

I once owned a 1989 USA Telecaster with a red Dually Lace Sensor at the bridge.
I am in no way saying it has anything to do with this guitar.
I only mention it only to illustrate that some guitars in the late 80's did come with bridge buckers.
It was not completely unheard of.

If memory serves, I believe it is possible the Atomic pickup mentioned by 64Galaxie was originally called DH1.
I do recall the DH1 was renamed and I think it was the Atomic.

Bit off-topic, I know, but that sticker on the back of the neck is exactly what I mentioned on the 'lack of sustain' thread of a few days ago. I know it might sound silly, but I found it made a difference.

Mrseabreeze - if you find sustain sadly lacking, you might want to peel it off, to get perfect wood-to-wood contact. OK, you could say it wouldn't be 'original' any more, but I wasn't suggesting throw it away. I used to move it to the body cavity. If you sell the guitar, you can always re-stick it on the neck again if you want to.

Anyway, sorry to digress, but it's a perfect example of what I was moaning about!

Cheers - Peter.

Congrats on a great guitar. Im a bit obsessed with EE's myself! I have never seen one with HB though. Serial number on the neck is the highest I ever seen on EE. Is there any chance for a shots of pickup cavity please?

Thank you every one for your input!
I have verified that the pick guard and electronics are from a Highway one.
I am a little bummed about this, but it is still a great guitar and plays well.
Has a very balanced feel and fantastic neck.
I plan to take it to a luthier to have it set up properly as it buzzes in spots.

I don't plan to have it apart again for awhile, but the inside is the typical swimming pool? cut out.
It is the highest number I have seen, also.

Bummer with the pickups but 80's singles are often on the auction sites if you aiming to bring it back to stock. I can look up my data and tried to figure it out when your strat was made if you want to. Either way, congrats :)
