Hey all,

I really need some help ID'ing these pickups. I have a '98 Strat that I've owned since 2000. I got it used and whoever had it before me replaced the pickguard and the pickups. The closest thing I can compare them to are Texas Specials, but they don't have the dots on the back or any labels on them. They sound great, but I really don't know what they are.

They are wired like you'd see on vintage/reissue/CS pickups with cloth, as well as being wound with plain enamel looking wire (That brownish-purple wire). They are staggered poles and the poles are not rounded off (They have sharp edges).

Resistance Readings:
Neck: 6.0 Ohm
Middle: 6.41 Ohm
Bridge: 7.27 Ohm

Pictures are included in the google drive link.

I'm not even sure they are fender brand pickups. Do I have something that was pulled out of a re-issue or series guitar, so they didn't label them? They don't appear to be *actual* vintage pickups, because they are too clean. I would think if they were very old, they would look the part.

Any help would be appreciated!

Well, I'm not sure this is any help, but the Alnico 5's in my 2006 Am Stds measure pretty much the same as yours. But they're flat pole and coloured wires, so clearly not the same - other than resistance.

But I'm sure someone on here will be able to do better than me!

Cheers - Peter.

I think some more pictures are in order, showing the top of the pickups, so we can at least see if they're staggered pole pieces.
A close up showing the top of the pole pieces on at least one of the pickups would be good too.

If you open the file, Chris, and double-click the images, there is one pic that shows the stagger.

Cheers - Peter.

Cheers Pete.

I clicked on the one that appeared to be a pickup cover, and this whole other picture opened up. :D
So I can see that the magnets are staggered, and the the poles are not chamfered.
Formvar wire too.

Just noticed this topic got answers, but nobody yet risked their forum reputation with a guess...

So here goes: no logos or stickers, fiber bobbin, staggered but not beveled polepieces, cloth wire with the mid pickup yellow/black indicating RWRP, wound with formvar...
My guess is a) they are Fender made, and b) more specifically "American Vintage Single-Coil Strat®" pickups, aka the 57/62 series, from a Classic Player 50's Stratocaster.

And that would fit just about perfectly except for that higher DCR on the bridge pickup... :(

All the 57/62s I have seen have bevelled pole pieces.
I like the 57/62s for that typical strat tone.
Hard to tell with those colored windings (should be a bit purple which these do not appear to be) but to me they are more like an old set of texas specials.
I would have to check some old pics to be sure pole height etc so not certain at this stage. :D

It might be the lighting of the photos, but they are a purplish wire, if that helps.
