I'm looking for a little help with identifying this 2nd hand Strat. There's no serial number on the headstock, nor the neck plate, so I'm pretty suspicious of it. Any help would be appreciated.Image ImageImage

At best it's an entry-level Squier Strat, probably from one of those Strat Paks that are commonly found around Christmas at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, and Buy More stores.

+1 Arjay

This one is commonly known as a fakeocaster. :x

Somehow I don't get a Squier feeling about that guitar - it may be just because there are too many mods. Making all those just doesn't feel sensible for the purpose.
My guess is, it's an example of the current Far-Eastern copycat guitars - and then all those "mods" could be factory stock.
I'd also guess the price is nowhere near a real CS guitar - this kind of thangs would not fool an experienced CS-customer, so they're more targeted to beginners.

Anyways, it's not a legit Fender.

I am stunned anyone might be taken in. I mean does anyone think Custom Shop would put their logo on the head stock so it didn't quite fit?

A typical fake and not even a good one. I agree it could well be a Chender.

Custom Shop, yet the tuners aren't on straight?
The list of other things where there's something not quite right is extensive.
It's a sweat shop knock off.
Never been near anyone with anything to do with Fender.

It's a pig wearing lipstick.

One thing I know for sure - because I made the mistake of buying one - the neckplate isn't Fender, with that plastic backing plate.

That's exactly the same as the knock-off I accidentally bought; the metal is thinner and the holes aren't quite in the right place. Altogether a great buy!!!

Cheers - Peter.

I thought that, but was looking at 25th Anniversary Strats (not to play, I just want one) and they have plastic under the plate. The only ones I am aware of though.

I’ve seen those plastic backing plates on Squiers before.

I don't recall that, John, and I tested the 25th Anniversary before buying a standard 1979 (back in 1980). Rory was a trifle disparaging about the Anniversary, and (probably stupidly) that put me off it!

But then there's lots of things I don't remember any more...!!!

Shimmilou - maybe, but this Strat's supposed to be a CS! Can't see them using a Squier part?!

Cheers - Peter.

Hopefully not directed at me John since obviously I meant I agree with all of the above comments :D

Dude! I know I'm grumpy but that was certainly not aimed at you. :-)

I was the same. I didn't buy one new, even after trying it and certainly don't remember the plastic plate. It is only recently, since I have started looking again that I found it to be a thing. It is because I walked away the first time that I want one now.
