The strat is a more unique guitar. A strat and a tele are things you can instantly hear on a recording. There are many imitations but there is only one true "Stratocaster".

Have any of you guys had to experiment before coming back to a strat?

I really haven't. I own other guitars including a Les Paul, but I've wanted a Strat since the late '60s. I had to settle for a Mustang since I was just 15 or 16 and didn't have the bucks to buy one until 1986. I consider myself a Strat man (hence the handle) and use the other guitars mostly to add different flavors to my recordings. The Strat is the perfect guitar.

Besides the details, I think that a Stratocaster is perfect for just about any musical situation. Just think how many bands in different genres plays strats. And while there are other guitars that rock pretty hard i.e.(Les Paul, SG, PRS, Jacksons, etc) no of them can compare with the strats versatility. The Strat is the only electric guitar found in everything from country to metal, blues to pop, funk to punk and even jazz. I have noticed that many other guitars become collectors pieces or works of art . And while a Strat is beautiful in its own right, it is a players instrument that rough and ready for whatever you through at it. It took me a few years and a few thousand dollars but I have finally found that I am a stratman.
