Has anyone changed the 2-Point Synchronized Tremolo on their American Standard for a Callaham Vintage S Model Strat Bridge? My guitar tech said it can be done, and I trust him, but I just wanted to know if any folks out there have done it? I would love to hear all opinions, etc.

Thanks everyone

In some ways easier than the opposite mod (six screw to two-point, which I've done a few times), provided your guy is good at filling those largish holes with well fitting wood which will hold the outer of the six screws firmly.

But those fillers are going to show on the surface as circles of wood visible beyond the plate of the trem - are you OK with that? Unless your guitar has a conveniently easy finish - i.e. black - your man would need to be very skilled to accomplish an "invisible mend" on the lacquer. If you are happy to live with a clearly visible mod then that's fine - it will significantly devalue your guitar, however.

We're bound to wonder why you want to do this, though. Many players like to adjust a six-screw trem so that in fact only the two outer screws are holding the thing, so the middle four become purely cosmetic. This de facto gives... a two-point trem - which is what you already have.

If you prefer the idea of a Callaham bridge - as many people do - might you consider their American Standard Strat Upgrade Kit for two-point trem instead? Just a thought...

Cheers - C

I think this is exactly what Ceri just said, but Callaham sells a lot of kits that are basically everything except the top plate of the bridge. That way, everything connects to the guitar the same way.
