Hi all.
Im looking for some assistance in identifying the makeup of this guitar. It was given to me 8 years ago by a friend who had it for 4 or 5 years prior to that. Its clearly a squier with the decals removed ( and removed badly). It’s a full gloss maple neck that plays beautifully hence the reason to find out its origins, other things have been changed on it, the tuners are not original, or I don’t think they are, the neck plate has been changed.
I have no intentions other than playing this guitar, im not looking to sell it and would never pass anything off for something its not. In fact if I can identify it correctly I will remove the fender logo and replace it with the correct one.
Since this I a great playing neck I have made some upgrades already ( not in these pictures, theses pictures represent how I got the guitar) ive changed the whole scratch plate and electronics all for genuine usa fender parts including pickups. The guitar now sounds fantastic as well as playing fantastic and ive replaced the tuners for locking tuners.

Any advice would be much appreciated
Thanks in advance
Jason Edwards

You said yourself: It looks like a Squier with the decals removed ... The tuners are not original ... the neck plate has been changed.

Agreed. I think you may have answered your own question ...?

What I’m trying to find out is what squire it could be, based upon the time I’ve had it. Is it a 80s,90s or more modern squire and what model could it be.
Cheers.
Jas.

I think the possibility of establishing what is was has long passed and you are just going to have to enjoy it for what it is.

Respect for considering removing the fake Fender logo and putting a Squier logo back though.

The last time I saw someone try to install those tuners on a Squier (Woodeso on YT), he found that the angle of the screws was reversed and the bottom screw hole on the top string hung off of the edge of the headstock.

The neck's 12th fret dot spacing *suggests* a Squier model but a detailed look at the underside of the pickguard could confirm that.

Small headstock, thick maple cap fretboard and a skunk stripe, with a bare truss rod hole..?
Off the top of my head, can't think of a Squier like that, so my guess would be that the neck is from outside the FMIC. But then again, I absolutely don't claim to know all the model variations from different origins.

You could join "that other forum" (squier-talk.com), they have a couple of Squier experts who know way more than e.g. squierwiki. Maybe measure the nut width and check the fret size, those might help ID'ing.

Anyways, you know it's not what its dressed to be, so just take the logos off and love it when it's honest. And don't look at the zigzag tuners too often.
