I'm potentially trading for a pre-wired pickguard a guy took out of a USA strat he bought in around 90.
Is there anything noteworthy about these pictures that might help determine roughly when, or what model of guitar it was?

That and in general, what would you say pickups from the late 80s, early 90s sound like?
In a trade, how much value should I treat such pickups as having?

+1

That's definitely not factory Fender wiring (Fullerton or Fuji-Gen)

Third vote for "not original electronics from a US Fender".
Those pickups could be from a Squier, but the resolution of the pics is too low to give any reliable guesses.

The scratchplate screw positioning indicates an early 60s style instrument.
The scratchplate itself might be taken off a vintage reissue guitar.

The pickups have ceramic magnets, so not USA fender.
The selector switch appears to be Oak/Grigsby.
The pots are difficult to identify from the picture.

What's the guy offering you to take the thing off his hands?

As well, the holes for the pickup and switch screws appear to be countersunk -- only vintage Strats or re-issues of same have this feature. Also noteworthy is the '50s-style aluminum pickguard shield for the control cavity.

Given the ceramic pickups, I would not value it at more than $30.
The pickguard and electronics may, at one time, have been on a nice guitar, but the pickups shown are standard low-end stuff and nothing special.

That is my understanding as well.

The PUP's look like nothing special and the wiring doubly so.

I'm not really seeing much of value aside the Pickguard but then I'm a sucker for 60's pickguards.

Another vote for Squier. Based on the pups...

Cheers - Peter.

If the pots and the switch are good, it's probably worth fifty or sixty bucks.

Loaded pickguards are pretty prolific on Ebay and they're not too expensive.
