Is the same two point bridge plate used on the mim player strats and American standards? I just replaced my zinc bridge block with a steel American standard block. The three screws fit perfect and the string holes are spaced right but all cheated towards the neck. Also tremolo arm hole alignment is just off to where I can’t screw it in. I block them trem so I don’t care much about that, but would I need a American standard bridge plate for a perfect alignment with the block? My mim player strat has a two point bridge plate with 2 1/16 string spacing so I assumed the blocks would be interchangeable.

Most of the time, MIM and American parts are not interchangeable

That's only true with regard to bridge parts. Most other components (pickups, controls, switches, pickguards, jack ferrule, etc) are interchangeable.

So what are my options for replacing the pw29 zinc block? I don’t use the trem, so would I be doing any sort of damage leaving the American standard one in there? Is there a aftermarket steel block that is a direct fit to the mim two point bridge plate? Thanks!

You can leave the current AmStd block in situ or (if you anticipate a future need for a functioning tremolo) check out aftermarket companies like GFS or Callahan. Both of them offer steel replacement blocks to fit a variety of Strat bridge configurations.

Thanks for the replies. I think I’ll leave the am std one in there for now and live with it being slightly off alignment.

If you happen to catch a PW36 block, that's a) Fender made (well, Ping actually, but hey...) and b) steel and c) fits the MIM trem. (It was used e.g. in the Highway1s and AmSpecials.)

Thanks for the info, I’m going to keep an eye out for one of those blocks. I ended up switching back to the zinc block for now. I guess I’m a little ocd because the misalignment was bothering me more than I enjoyed the benefit of a slight increase in sustain and note clarity.

Callaham makes one - it's a direct fit. You can often find them from dealers on Reverb or go to Callaham directly.

Measure your spacing, though. It can be different from guitar to guitar on the MIM guitars - I have no idea why.

Are you sure, JM? I ask because I'm currently building my first partscaster, and am using an Am Spec trem (with PW36 block).

I WAS going to buy a used Mexican body, with the 6 trem mounting holes ready-drilled, but the supplier told me the Am Spec trem wouldn't fit. The string spacing is the same at 2-1/16", I think, but the supplier said the mounting screws had different spacing...? Which perhaps means that the PW36 block won't fit the MIM baseplate...? Or will it?

Anyway, I'll be posting pics of a Shoreline Gold / rosewood board SLO, probably in the next week or so!

Cheers - Peter.
