I'm having some trouble with the neck- not serious or anything- but there is this little scratch/blemish right on the little brown inlay that goes up the back of the neck. Its about an inch-and-a-half long and just runs across that spot. Its not very serious, but I can't help but to notice it. Is there any way maybe I can buff that out, anybody have any advice? :?

Its also not noticeable visually, I have to run my hand up the lower frets to feel it slightly on the palm of my hand.

This is my Strat! I love it to death. Totally irreplaceable. :D

Hello Rocker_Gamma,

Play the heck out of it,
it'll disappear.

Cheers.

Maybe, it depends how deep the scratch is. If it's deep, you will have to fill it, even it out, and buff it.

Its not really deep at all, more like a little spot that just is barely noticeable.

Then get yourself some polishing compound and a hunk of terry cloth towel and go at it.

I bought some 3M stuff in the Automotive section of a local discount department store. It works wonders. I glossed up my Highway One with it (I didn't like the satin finish, it looked like cheap Target furniture to me).

It sounds like your picky about your guitar, so am I. If it really bothers you I would recommend taking it to a good luthier for repair. It could still be somewhat visible, but they should be able to make it totally smooth again.

mate if your as crazy about the guitar as i am of mine, then this is of small significance. after 20 years you wont notice it for all the other marks. infact you could end up missing it when you play others

Embrace your dings!!

I look at a guitar that's years old and it's in perfect shape. My first thought is "don't play much, huh?" I've just never understood the mindset of trying to keep your guitar looking brand new forever.

There's nothing saying that you can't "smooth" out and embrace your dings ... especially on the back of your neck where your hand runs.

I admit to flicking off the loose bits of smashed finish

You're right. Dings on the back of the neck might need attention if it's bothering ya. I like flicking off loose finish. I stop at causing damage on purpose, but each dent is the start of a waiting period to fingernail off a piece o'nitro.

Ha! You like it?!??

The "walnut" one here had a nice smashed bit o' finish (and I admit to using a black magic marker on my Blackie's dings, a long time ago):
