a friend is travelling to the us and i asked him to bring me a guitar
conditions are a sub 800$ price tag NEW, and maple v-neck.

jimmie vaughan strat falls directly in this category, and ive heard its a great bang for the buck, the only thing is that im not sure its good enough for what im looking for...

i play funk, reggae and space rock (think john frusciante, the wailers and david gilmour) would that guitar be good enough for those genres?

should i spend a few more bucks into a fender classic players 50's?

thanks!

Considering the price range ... I would give you a strong "yes" vote. The Tex Mex pups provide a ton of tonal variation. They do both heavy and clean quite well.

I believe they are using the Tex-Mex pick-ups in the Jimmy Vaughan stratocaster which may not be the same tone you're searching for. These pick-ups tend to be on the dirty side as far as tone and are probably best suited for blues and classic rock. I think you would be much better off looking for a stratocaster with a clean tone like the Noiseless pick-ups. I think they have a model out in the $700 range with these pick-ups. If not, spend the extra dollars and consider an American Standard model. Good Luck.

What can I say, I love my JV strat. beautiful 2- color sunburst, and the soft V neck really fits my hand. The maple neck is one piece, rather than a laminated maple fretboard on maple neck. The Tex-Mex pups go from clean to real dirty, great range through my Blues Junior. And the signature is on the back of the headstock, a big plus in my book. One thing to be aware of, the single ply eight screw pickgaurd does tend to warp and I have had to adjust my pickup heights to compensate. MIM, yes, but with the US made electronic components and other upgrades, a real good value compared to the lower end MIA's.

That's why guitars come with volume controls too. It'll clean up just fine. IMHO noise is part of the Strats uniqueness. I never really cared for noisless pups. YMMV :D
