Thanks!

Allegedly, she has the original case in the "attic somewhere". I believe it has some damage to it though...

LOL at Belph... Thanks!

It was definitely enjoyed for over 50 years. It has some wear...

I am sure you already know this, but just in case (no pun intended)...

Damaged or not, the original case will add even more value to this.

Thanks, 01GT.
Yea, I told her that we should plan to get it down sometime soon. She will have my cousin do that soon. This would all be so much easier if it were my guitar... LOL!

Thanks for the follow-up, my friend.

My grandma still has the guitar. She is acting somewhat stubborn about the price, but that's her call to make. I still have a few people staying in contact with me to see if/when she will come down on the price...

I don't know if you know this but the neck was made by Tadeo Gomez. Here is another one he did in 54'.

Hey, welcome back old thread!

Just been reading it all through again from the start. Very entertaining. What a chatty lot we are - talk about vamping till ready!

Lions-head, if the guitar's not sold yet you're in time to take advantage of another Forumite's experience. The gentleman in South Africa briskly sold his '60s Strat to an online rare guitar dealer in the UK for $13,000. He then showed up here again complaining bitterly that they were advertising it for a much bigger number, something like $47,000, if I remember right. But then, that's how dealers work.

Annoyingly, I've had a search and can't find that thread for you at this moment. But it shows very clearly; take plenty of advice and then take your time selling. Don't get stung.

I assume that by now your Strat's been properly validated so you must have some sort of idea of the kind of price it could be worth. These people (not the same dealer that the South African fella went to) are selling a nice Strat:

I've been watching that one on Ebay for a few weeks. They are offering it for £57,000/$84,000 - but then it hasn't found a buyer yet at that price. That is in significantly better condition than yours, but it's also eight years later and much less rare...

Deeply fascinated to know how your sale ends up!

Very best of luck to you - C

Thanks, Ceri! I truly appreciate the info. :D

Yes, my grandma actually took it in to somewhere (don't know where) to be formally appraised, and they put it at $30k-$45k due to the wear and state of the market. They validated its originality and authenticity, but my grandpa definitely played the heck out of it.

My grandma is simply taking the approach of "wait and see". She wants more than $50k for it, but we'll see how that endeavor plays out. I will gladly let you all know...

I'd be looking to wait the current economic depression out to sell for that price mate. Once this financial nonsense is over though, id expect $50K atleast. Its a buyers market at the moment but that will change luckily. :D
Want a nice 59 watkins amp to go with the guitar :D

The fact that it's in Fiesta Red adds a lot of value to this one.

Personally, I'd rather have the '54, and I'm sure that most of us would.

Yes, I believe that's right - especially east of the Atlantic. Mind you, after a couple of months they still haven't found a buyer for this £57,000/$80,000 '62 Strat. In dollar terms that guitar's getting cheaper by the week. Make 'em an offer, why not...?

Here's the Ebay page:

Cheers - C

A friend of mine is experiencing much the same problem with a 62 335 dot. Its in excellent condition he did tour it as a kid. He's trying to raise extra dough for his retirement to spain because of the current euro/pound crisis. All he's being offered is 18/19000. This guitar looks like its 4/5 years old. Now is certainly the time to buy not sell, as is proved by that 62 strats stagnation. 3 years ago that would of sold for 57k all day long.
