Hi Folks,
A question: I have just purchased a MIM Player series strat 2019 model through a dealer from Fender - all Good! AWESOME GUITAR!! but....came with a tremolo arm but was missing the spring that keeps the Tremolo arm with enough tension to stop slipping while playing. Can some one advise if it should have come with the spring? it seems that it should have one...
Cheers for any replies that can clear this up.
Os

I own several MIM Classic Series Strats and none of them came with a spring for the tremolo arm. The springs are available from FMIC separately as an accessory -- six in a pack for around ten bucks.

Thanks Arjay, the shop sent me a couple and I bought a pack for spares. My guess is that with the amount of guitars that Fender must make, not including the springs is a cost measure.
Cheers,
Os.

My MIA came with one, seemed awfully easy to loose, so I bought the pack as well.

Didn't think they came with anything other than MIA's.

When I take the arm out I put a small round fridge magnet over the hole

If the guitar arrived w/ a small round sticker over the trem arm hole, it likely had a spring in it. My 1st strat had that and I inadvertently removed the sticker and the spring did a disappearing act...oops.

I have a 2016 MIA Strat that I use the spring in (along with a 4mm ball bearing). But if I drop a spring in my late-90s MIM Strat, it falls right out the back. I don't know whether later MIM bridges are configured differently.

Take the spring cavity cover off and look at the block.
You'll find theres a hole that goes right through the block, and that's where the spring falls through.

How do you keep the arm in the position you want ?

old school: you have to just tighten the arm down so it doesn't swing but might not be in the right spot, or it swings.

add some Teflon tape (used for putting the shower head on in your bathroom) around the threads of the trem arm.
that should tighten up the movement for better adjustment

Thank you, I knew this and it seems to me that this is a way to compensate for a bad / cheap way of manufacturing by fender, such as the Charvel that I repair.

Or you could screw a threaded bolt/stud/similar into the hole at the bottom of the block, and then use the Fender spring (as per a MIA Strat).

Rather like the earlier Supervee Bladerunner, which had a nylon stud screwed into the back (but no spring). That kept undoing itself as there was no locknut - I think they've modded it now, since I told them about it. Similar principle, though - just a matter of blocking the hole so you can drop a spring in.

That's what I'd do.

Cheers - Peter.

PeterS it is what I do with the Charvel. You must cut the Fender spring, a short screw use too much space

Yes, that's exactly what I meant, Stratele - but you already thought of it. Great minds think alike!

Cheers - Peter.
