My 17 year old nephew is getting ready to purchase a new electric guitar. He seems to have really done his homework, researched numerous models in his price range, read reviews, downloaded specs, compared features, and gone to a couple of music stores to test drive various models.

He thinks he has it narrowed down to two models, the Classic Player 60's Srat vs. the Deluxe Players Strat. The Classic Player 60's has an alder body, Custom '69 pups, and 2 point trem. The Deluxe Player has an ash body, Vintage Noiseless pups, extra push button control, and gold hardware.

I don't have any direct playing experience with either of these models, but I know some of you do. Any advice, experiences, opinions, kudos, or criticisms would be very much appreciated.

From what I know, they are both great guitars. Personally I would go with the 60's over the deluxe, just because I think the noiseless pickups take some authenticity away. That said, the noiseless are the pickups Eric Clapton uses, so they must be good for something. :)

Vintage noiseless are very sterile and brittle sounding pickups i have them installed on a guitar and on their own are limited. They dont handle gain too well and are difficult to get softer sounds from. However they are excellent for country twang.
For that reason alone i'd get the 60's player with its 69 pickups. They are alot more versatile.

Hello Strato,

Two great guitars,
He'll know when he find the right one.

But then he may want another,
and another. . . . .it happens

Cheers.

It will come down to the tone & feel.

He will need to scrutinize both guitars and make his decision.

i would go with the player 60's because of the pickups.

But it all comes down to your nephew. If he wants a real nice vintage guitar, he should probably go with the 60s. If he wants something modern, maybe go with the deluxe player. Thats just MHO.

Good luck and remember, they're both fenders!

I agree about the pickups. But I've never been quite clear on the "vintage" "60s" epithets for that guitar. 12 inch radius neck; five-way switch; two-point trem; polyester finish?

...I suppose you can have it in Sonic Blue, a very nice 60s color. And the pickups have the number 69 in the title...

Nice guitar, without doubt. Just not sure about the name. But what's in a name?

Cheers - C
