Just received a Fender Player Strat, was listed as an Open Box but looks like it was probably never played. Tremolo Bar was in the sealed bag along with the sticker/book/allen keys, so it appears to be the right one. However, the threads in the bridge go all the way through and so the Bar will thread in until the point where its hitting the controls, but still never tighten. Is this normal for these? I know I can wrap it in some PTFE tape, just more making sure that i'm not missing something.

Thanks in advance!

Tremolo bar with thread need a spring inside the tremolo block to hold the arm.

Many guitar user loose the spring 'cause the spring is loose in the hole and can be drop from the guitar if no tremolo bar.

Read what Stew Mac write :)

Your tremolo arm stays put—no more flopping around. A quick, simple solution to a problem that can drive you crazy!

Screw the tremolo arm out of your bridge and drop the ball bearing in the hole. Drop the spring in next, and screw the arm back in place. That's all there is to it.

Turning against the ball bearing keeps the spring from binding as it compresses under the tremolo arm. With the added spring tension, the trem-arm stays wherever you leave it.

Works for traditional Strat tremolos, like our #1264 Gotoh Tremolo. Doesn’t work for our other models.

Dimensions
Spring: 0.5" long x 0.150" diameter (12.7mm x 3.81mm)
Ball Bearing: 0.158" diameter (4mm)

I don't think the spring would work with these tremolos; the OP tells that " the threads in the bridge go all the way through" so a spring would just fall through.

I think it's the same bridge as in Classic Player series (50 & 60) Strats, and on a CP50 I worked on, the teflon tape solution was the only one I came up with. Worked perfectly, as that trick usually does.
One funny thing about these tremolos (if my memory is right), they have a metric M5 trem arm/hole thread but a .050" imperial hex key for saddle height adjusting.

I fix a tremolo with thread all the way thought.
I put a set screw at the bottom and put a spring

The Player trem is Fender part 0072253000 which is the same as the Classic Player.
The block should be stamped PW-29 on the bottom.
In my experience they do not have the the arm screw hole drilled right through the block. IMHO it is faulty.
