Recently changed pickups in my Strat, had in some Fender N3’s in the guitar and went with a DiMarizo Area 61 and two Area 58 that I had laying around. Bottom line the end results are positive. Really did the swap just for a change of pace.
But got me thinking ---
I do like the overall character of the N3’s but a little more chime would be nice. Got reminded of this when I installed the DiMarizo pickups.
So the question have any of you with the Fender noiseless pickups ever tried 500k pots?

John

I find it funny that even FMIC themselves don't seem to have a definite answer. Just check the variation of pots they've shipped with a Vintage Noiseless set:

Maybe it should be "Vintage Clueless"...

Yeah some interesting reading! With all of the inconsistency of the pots, no wonder these pickups don't have the best reviews out there.
As for me, I think I will try 500k pots for the tone controls and leave the volume a 250k for now. And perhaps make the volume a 500k also further into the future. Bottom line have to play around with it a bit. Have a Tele with N3's in it, have to pull it out later and see what pots they used from the factory. That guitar sounds great.

As for the Strat, the Dimarzio's (Area 61 and two Area 58's) sound really good with the 250k pots

+1

I have three Strats with DiMarzio Noiseless pickups and all three are configured with standard Strat wiring and 250KΩ pots. The only change I made was to replace the stock .047ufd tone cap with a Russian mil-spec PIO type of .022 ufd (smoother, more linear roll-off and less insertion loss).

The Fratocaster popped up in another topic a few days ago, and as news to me, the "2nd edition upgraded pickups" were Area 67 for the neck, Area 54 Pro for the middle, and an Injector neck pickup for the bridge.
Just thought to münchen that...
