I bought my 2018 Stratocaster Performer 6 months ago (USA Strat). Love the strat, setup, sound, etc. But, the last several times I have been playing it, the E string (.010 - I use Gilmour GHS Strings) keeps popping out of the nut to the side of the neck during solos (i.e. during Comfortably Numb, various Clapton solos,etc...you get the idea). I bend when I play, pull off, hammer on, pretty much all the tricks of the trade to make the songs as close as possible to original. The nut shows no damage (nothing is over worn or broken at the nut, yet it presents this problem while playing some songs).

I am curious if GC will do anything , or even if the warranty covers this issue. Really frustrating to be in the middle of a perfect solo only to have to quickly push the e string back over the nut into its slot. Any ideas? I'm afraid to cut the nut slot lower for fear of getting fret buzz because the setup is as near perfectas you can get it right now. Any ideas??

It's possible that some foreign debris has found its way into your nut slot. You might try cleaning the slot thoroughly with a toothbrush and some isopropyl alcohol. Swab any effluvia and excess liquid away with a Q-tip.

Thanks, I will check that. I have changed the strings twice. If something got between the string and the bottom of the slot, that might explain it.

A few pictures wouldn't go amiss.

I had exactly that problem with a CS Strat, aggravated by my use of 9's tuned to E flat. It went back to Fender (GB) for a new nut.

I also fitted string trees (this Strat didn't have any), and together I've had no further problems. Appreciate your Strat will already have trees (one reason I like the Special / Performer) so I imagine the nut's badly cut or needs replacing. You should be able to get this done under warranty, as I did.

Alternatively, having a luthier replace the nut isn't expensive, if (a) you know a GOOD luthier/tech, and (b) you'd prefer to pay a professional, instead of the (free) work-experience bloke at Fender!

Cheers - Peter.
