While the entire guitar world is hellbent on a quest to prove the old school wrong ....
While people continue to insist on having cranked stack tone come from something the size and weight of a breadbox ....
While people continue to misunderstand that their amplifier is the part of their rig that actually makes the sound they hear ....

I will still be here telling the world that if they want to sound like a metal band they should probably use metal gear.
You can do it using other gear but there are some things that lend themselves more naturally.
The question is, how much do you want to fight it?

As a man who has owned a number of EL84 amps and whose current main rig is EL84 equipped, I can tell you with 100% certainty that if I was going to play metal?
I wouldn't use an EL84 amp.
Maybe that's just me.
Maybe I'd rather make it easy on myself.

I dunno.
It's getting harder and harder to advise people these days.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Like trying to play surf music with an AC30TB or old-school country with a Crate stack.

You can always tell a newbie......you just can't tell him much.

Again overdrives not distortion pedals.

While it isn't something I am in to, my understanding is drive pedal into amp seems to be the standard. I really don't understand why either.

Two ways to go.... Set your amp up for your rhythm tone and volume with your guitar on "5-8", and go to "10" for solos, or set it up with the guitar on 10 and kick in an overdrive for a clean boost.
If you like just a little dirt but can't push your amp hard enough to get into breakup at the volume that you want, an OD can do it more cleanly than a distortion pedal.
