i went to the store to try out some guitars. and i tried out a bugera v22. the tone was amazing something that i havent heard before because i been playing modelers all my life. i thought it was gonna be expensive but i was wrong when i checked the price at 399.99

is it worth getting a tube amp? the only problem i see, is getting a modern metal tone :/ theres the bugera g5 or g20 but i dont know if i could get a vintage tone out of those 2.
no, im not gonna be playing live but i just loved the tone that came out of that amp.

the employees told me to try the katana amps but something was missing when i did. idk why they get so recommended. it felt like i was playing the plugins that i use on my computer. maybe i just needed to tweak something. for those who use tube amps have you guys made the switch to digital? yes for live probably but i mean to just plug and play?

dont have the money for high end modelers, like helix, kemper or axe fx..

The V22 uses a pair of EL84 power tubes.
I would say your hesitation about getting metal out of it is probably warranted.
EL84s are not exactly favoured by metal guys.
EL34s in the early years and 6L6s in more recent years, yes.
EL84s not so much.
I'm not saying it can't be done and for all I know there might be someone out there who does use an EL84 amp for metal but it's not the norm.
That's my point.

If you are looking for metal in a small combo size, you might be better off going with a solid state amplifier.
Fender used to make one called (I believe) MH series but I see they are no longer made.
I never really looked into that series very closely but I know they were solid state and intended for metal use.
Randall makes amps that are well suited to metal and hard rock.
They do have some tube amps but a large portion of their lineup is solid state and modestly priced.
You might want to check them out.
Of course, you can always go the clean amp route and get your dirt from pedals.
In that event, a Fender would be a great choice.

There is a reason Bugera amps are the price they are. You can get a good one and you can also get a lemon.

I have a V5 and it is a great little amp for home use, and much better after I swapped the speaker and tubes. But I'm after a very vintage blues rock tone, hence the V.

Apparently you can hit a sweet spot on the V22 for metal with a drive pedal but it takes some fiddling to dial it in just right.

A good valve amp on song is a very wonderful thing and you are right that, despite getting better and better, modeling amps can seem a little sterile. But, by comparison, they are very convenient, light, and pretty much bullet proof.

It also depends on what you are doing with it. Some valve amps are just way too loud.

The problem is ... they're not obsolescence-proof.

Excellent amp, reminds me of the Matchless in tone, and I really like that tone a lot. As for metal, with a sweet clean vintage tone also, check out a Bugera T50 head. Or, if you want to blow the doors off, a 1990 head is wonderful for metal and clean vintage tones. The T50 and 1990 have switchable Triode/Pentode modes to get everything from vintage cleans to screaming metal tones, and everything in between.

I own all three of the aforementioned amps, all are killer, and built like tanks. Bugera has really stepped up their game in recent years, making some fantastic amps at unbelievable prices.

Thanks for the advice. But I don’t get it the iron heart by Laney uses EL84s and is meant for metal.

The Vox AC30 and AC15 amps use EL84s too.
The Iron Heart is a great amp when run clean (read that as a great pedal platform, which is how Tom Quayle runs one).
Stick whichever drive pedal you want in front (modern metal you're looking to scoop the mids, and there are plenty of pedals that can do that), and Bob is your mother's brother.

I suspect you missed part of my post so I'll quote it here for you.

I am never the guy who says you absolutely can't do X music with Y guitar/amp.
Never.
That said, there are some fairly obvious trends and I do sometimes point those out.

Mesa Mini Rec, Peavey 6505 MH, EVH 5150 III, various Orange, H&K, Blackstar...

Lots of metal amps with EL84's.

Up until recently, metal was one of the few genres that still routinely celebrated insane stage volume, and 6L6/EL34 ruled. And they're still the metal flagships.

But 15~25 watt EL84 metal amps have proliferated in the past 5 years.

I know your not the guy.. I’m trying to say that the Bugera V22 on some YouTube videos it doesn’t get that modern metal tone when using an overdrive pedal and The laney does with the El84s.. so know I’m more confused. is there something that I’m missing. Again overdrives not distortion pedals.

I’m starting to like laney more now do the clean and metal tones

While it isn't something I am in to, my understanding is drive pedal into amp seems to be the standard. I really don't understand why either.
