Morning, I'm a newbie on here from the UK, and I'm the proud owner of a 1959 tobacco sunburst. Reading articles, I realise most of the talk neck wise is about the Rosewood fingerboard, however, mine is all Maple. Does that make it more or less sought after? I'd appreciate any comments, cheers, John.

How about the pickguard -- single or three-ply?

How many screws holding it to the body?

Thanks for the reply Arjay- It's a single ply scratchboard, and there are 8 screws holding it in. There's 16 if you count the pickups and the selector switch.

Your guitar represents a transition model which in and of itself is pretty rare. There were some pickguard anomalies documented with these instruments -- I once saw a maple-fretboard '59 wearing a 3-ply (W/B/W) pickguard with only ten original mounting screws.

Post some pics if you get a chance, I'm certain we'd all love to see your 'beastie'.
