I found a copy of my beloved Strat on Reverb for what seems like an astronomical price ... the add says:

"RARE 1982 Fender Stratocaster 1957 Reissue 57 USA Fullerton 2-Tone Sunburst"

https://reverb.com/item/25719274-rare-1982-fender-stratocaster-1957-reissue-57-usa-fullerton-2-tone-sunburst-relic-avri-strat-ohsc

Are these rare and why would this seller say it was worth $4500.00US?

Really curious what you-all think.

After the havoc caused by CBS, the early 80's was Fenders first attempt to revisit their history and to start producing reissue type guitars. An 82 "V" serial number guitar would indeed be the first of these. In that respect they are rare insofar as they represent the beginning of a new age at Fender.

Worth $4.5K? Why not? Stuff is only worth what people will pay but if people will pay that then there is no reason why yours wouldn't be worth similar money. Result.

Thanks for your thoughts. I know about buyers and sellers... whatever.

Still, some more opinions matter to me. Rare, I get. So is it scarcity driving the price?

Yup it's a "V" series number in the 000900's ...

When I bought the instrument in Seattle (2000?), and payed it among a couple of dozen other guitars... obvious to me it was the "only one." I forget the name of the store on 1st Ave, I think it was going out of business.)

I had it to a luthier in 2010 for an output jack issue. I just re-read his comments on the setup he did for me at that time - including an inspection of the soldering, pots and all that ... three times he commented on the tone and made an effort pointing out that the soldering was beautifully executed.

I might drop $4k to own it. But then it's a familiar hand to me.

For $4500, I'd buy a NOS or Journeyman Relic Custom Shop.... or build four Partscasters.

OTOH, if I ever find my actual '78 Antigua, I'd likely offer significantly over market to have it back home.

Antiqua Hard Tail? Whichever, no wonder you'd bend over.

NOS or Relic CS... registers with me too. Some really special materials (like top tone woods)

I think the AVRI's are less likely to have stellar basic materials. Good enough to sound great. But not great to be exceptional (mine is close, but I've played better.)

So, hmm... I still don't know who they think will buy at $4.5K -- other than collectors, and I still don't see the rarity quite yet. Have to be at least several thousand of these made in 82-85.

Thanks fellows.

So it is one of the 1st 1000 V guitars from Fenders rebirth? In great condition. I'm thinking you want to consider special insurance and not take it out of the house.

How many of the first 1000 do you think are still around after 40 years? Of course it is rare. And aside being rare it is highly significant in Fenders history so will be collectable for that reason also.

People pay really big money for Strats from the 50's and 60's. 70's CBS Strats weren't great guitars by comparison but still reflect prices way above their worth as instruments just because they are 50 years old. You have a guitar from the start of Fenders rebirth, a guitar that sounds and plays well, in great condition. Of old Strats it is next in line of desirability over 50's and 60's guitars, and it is one of the first 1000. Where do you think the value is going to go?

Thanks, this was really an eye opening opinion. I really appreciate it.
