i currently own a fender standard strat that has not been upgraded at all. I run it through a boss multi effects pedal into a fender frontman 25R that i will be replacing with a peavey windsor combo soon. I have found that the sustain on my dtrat is absolutley terrible and the noise when the selector is in the 1st 3rd and 5th position really negativley impacts my playing experience. I am also not very fond of the overdriven tone that my current pickups give. i have decided to replace the pickups but would like single coil sized humbuckers to cancel the hum and increase sustain but i would still like them to retain a good classic rock sound (maybe like a P.A.F. kinda tone?)
unfortunatley i have been unable to find pickups that meet my needs and was wondering if anyone has any ideas for me.

happy to answer. GO to the dimarzio website. I would recommend the tone zone 'S' as well. Really, dimarzio makes really good single coil sized humbuckers. if you want overdrive, the super distortion S maybe. So many to choose from. Or you could get area pickups if you crave the blues, which i do. really wanna get those...

or try some hot rails from duncan. my opinions on this.

I'm in the same boat as the creator of the thread. I've been looking at some Lave Sensors, specifically the Purple and Emerald to replace my Neck and Mid PUP's. I might as well replace my bridge while I'm at it, eh?

Anyone used the Lace Sensors before? How's the quality?

Fender SCN's are good and very quiet, have a thick tone and are very balanced. The dimazio tonezone isnt very stratlike, but has a sound all of its own im not sure how it would sound in the neck and middle positions, it may be a bit muddy. Fender Vintage noiseless with the clapton mid boost are my current faves. I think they are naturaly mid scooped which is why the sound brash and sterile, couple them with a mid boost though and they become giant slayers. On full boost they put out more than the Emg 81/85 combo i have in a jackson and have a wider tonal range than the scn/dimazio tonezone i have in my vintage hotrod. well worth the £145 i paid for the parts. You can find it alot cheaper than that too. Ive seen the pickup set going for £60 on ebay.

I've been considering about the same swap, except a Seymour-Duncan Little '59 on the neck of my HSS. Haven't been able to get much input and don't want to spend the money/time until I hear from someone who's made the change.

One concern is that if I switch to a humbucker on the neck, will it still noise-cancel with the middle singlecoil? At first I wanted to keep it simple and not swap a pot out for a push/pull, but if it will let me switch from singlecoil/humbucker sound AND I need to be able to switch to singlecoil setting in order to noise cancel when using neck/middle, it would be worth it. My model doesn't have a pickguard so have to get to the pots from the back.

Ideally, I'd like to replace the middle pup with a rail and have both going through push/pulls to give me more options. It's for my Stagemaster and someone had already upgraded the pups before I got it so those would go in my SSS Strat. Hopefully they will both sound better after I'm done.

By the way, if you haven't checked out Guitar Fetish, you might want to give them a try before investing in Dimarzios or Seymours. Their prices are alot lower and from what I've heard they are good.
