hi... I have a 2017 Am Pro with the solid rosewood neck. It’s been nothing but trouble for me since I got it. I’ve had it to almost every tech in Pennsylvania and none of them can seem to fix it. I figured I would come here with my questions...

So first: Fret buzz is a major issue. I play with 10s with a fairly aggressive pick attack and the thing just busses no matter what. It’s on the brink of 2.75mm... I adjust the neck and saddles like crazy and nothing seems to fix it.

Second; The neck pocket is too wide for the neck. I can fit a .60mm pick in there comfortably. I’m not sure how this affects the neck if it does.

Could anyone help? It’s been out of commission for nearly a month now because I can’t do anything past 4th fret.

1- You tech are not qualified, they are just are handy man. You must see a qualified luthier.
Fret buzz are easy to fix.

2- Neck pocket; it is not a issue with gab on a sides

#1 - Nut height
#2 - Neck relief
#3 - Check frets for level... if not, correct the problem now.
#3.5 - If changes made on #3, repeat #2.
#4 - String height
#5 - If needed, shim neck/adjust micro-tilt
#6 - Repeat #4 and #5 as needed to obtain proper string height and saddle height.
#7 - Intonate and play.

Annoyingly, I suppose, I'm going to agree with my friends: Find a decent luthier / tech. No guitar cannot be fixed if the basic build / components are good.

A proper luthier WILL be able to sort this out at reasonable cost. Or advise you if, for instance, the neck is warped beyond repair. If so, am I right in thinking - in the States - you have a longer warranty than across the pond?

Appreciate how hard it is to find a good tech / luthier, though. User reviews help if available, otherwise it seems to be trial and error. Mine is brilliant (thanks to Steve at Felixstowe!) but he's 80 miles away. This, in the UK, is virtually another galaxy! But others I've tried or consulted, more locally, obviously haven't had a Scooby...

Cheers - Peter.

Before anything that our friends have replied up there...

What's this buzz your're talking about? Is it just the buzzing you hear when the guitar is unplugged (which is fairly normal and acceptable in most cases, especially with low action and light gauge strings) or does the guitar buzz through the amplification?

It’s comes through the amp clearly. I have since reached out to fender and they think the neck may be defective. They said it could be taking in or losing moisture too quickly. The guitar will hold a set up for about two weeks in decent, consistent weather. I measure the neck relief once I get it back from a tech, and then when it goes out, I set it back to the relief it came home with. However when I do that, the action is just terrible. Almost like the saddles were never adjusted in the first place.

Did they give you instructions for returning or repairing it at a Fender authorized repair shop?

Yes, they told me to either take it to the Guitar Center 2 hours away from me, or one of their certified luthiers to have them inspect it. I have 6 or so months left on my warranty, so I should be alright I appreciate all the help.

I just realized that your strat doesn’t have a RW fretboard, but a solid RW neck right?

RW is a very porous and chippy wood, unlike maple. I can see how it might absorb lots of humidity, depending on how it’s filled and finished... interesting.

Let us know how it all went, please!
