Hey,

this is my first post in this forum so just real quick: my name is Chris, I'm from Austria and I'm a Fender lover - nuff said ;)

I once purchased this guitar used when I was still going to school. It was my first electric guitar but I never really used it. So I put it under my bed and totally forgot about it.
Now I found it again and am not really sure if it's a real fender. I bought it from a guy who claimed to have bought it in the US and that it is real. Like I wrote back then I was still young and blindly believed him. I took a video to show you guys what it looks like. The weird thing is, that it only has stickers on it. I once read tho that there are fenders (older vintage models) that only used to get stickers attached to them.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could shed some light on this - thank you so much in advance and all the best
Chris

Due to modular nature of this guitar I can only say the decal is wrong. Too small.

For a black logo sticker (water slide decal) it should be under the finish. 1967/68 transition logos and earlier are over the finish on genuine (not reissue) guitars.

Some reissues have decals over finish and some under. But on originals the black logo corresponded with it being under the finish.

I can’t speak for Custom Shop or Artist Series Fenders.

Certain special Fenders have laser etched logo (like on some rosewood necks) or metal (metallic) logo.

Probably need more pics but looks like a guitar with fake decals.
Callaham saddles.

Logo is wrong for that shape of headstock. I'm not aware of Made in USA stickers being applied to the neck heel. I'm also not convinced by the fret marker dots.

It is difficult to tell in a video over pictures though as pictures you can study the details.

So, still at school, you bought a Strat that you didn't really want and so put it under your bed? Methinks someone was given too much pocket money. :-)

All this aside, while I am pretty certain it is a fake, it doesn't mean it wont be a good guitar to play.

I was going to say that, being your first electric guitar you should never sell it. But as you didn't play it you probably won't have that emotional connection so no big deal.

Not necessarily the wrong neck for that decal - remember the first Strats to come out of Fullerton after Dan Smith became production manager?

Unfortunately the video doesn't show the back of the headstock.
It should have Fender "F" tuners.
I don't recall a USA guitar ever having a crappy serial sticker at the body end.
And the saddles at least are Callaham
