Quick question for all you wiring guru’s.

My son and I are working on an American Strat. We are getting ready to start wiring and would love some feedback on capacitor values. We are considering using two orange drop capacitors and were wondering what value(s) we should use. Do we use the same value capacitor on each tone control or should they be different? Does it matter? I understand a lot of this has to do with what sound you are hoping for but I’d love to hear what others use and like. My first thought was to use two 047uF orange drop caps. One for each tone control. Looking for recommendations. Thanks

I'm absolutely not one of those, but to get the topic rolling...

There is no one right answer, it all depends on personal taste. For some, any cap (or none at all) is fine, others are very particular for even the type of a cap let alone the value. And as a BTW, many Strat wirings have a cap on only Tone1.
So might be best to first check the basics of capacitors, for example here: https://www.seymourduncan.com/tonefiend ... your-caps/
And then maybe check some wiring options, for example here: https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/art ... e-Diagrams

A good choice is go with what was in the guitar originally, but that of course depends on if you use the original pickups.
And if you want personal opinions, a .047 cap might be too dark for me on Tone2, if it's wired for the bridge pickup. But that's just me, and I tend to like the "bright, close to ice picky".

This feedback was very helpful - Thank you. I reviewed both links you provided and I think I'm now on the right track. I'm going to wire the strat so I can test a .022 and a .047. I'll let my son decide which capacitor he likes. Thanks again.

ok I'm a little late here but, properly wired there is no need for two caps of the same value, you only need one. You can have two caps of different values for different tone ranges.
