Hi, welcome and sorry for the late answer (the forum has a first poster delay policy, so I saw your message only today).

In general, I would expect to see a date in the neck pocket of a legit 1988 MIA Strat - but with Fender's there's always the "expect the unexpected" factor.

Anyways, the first thing to do would be to check that the guitar is a) legit and b) original (as in neck&body were together since the guitar was made).
The forum can often help with that, at least up to a point. But ID'ing a guitar needs pics. All sides, details (e.g. headstock both sides), insides (e.g. neck pocket/heel; routings and especially pot bottoms to see the stamps) and so on - and as high-res as possible.

So, here's how to post pics:
Quote:
First you need to upload your pics to the internet. Use a pic hosting site (imgur, imgbb or such - avoid photobucket) or some common web framework like e.g. facebook, googlephotos - whatever you're familiar with.
The important thing is that the web site provides you with a pic address - that's the one starting with 'http' or 'https' and ending in '.jpg' .

Copy the pic address, and use the IMG-command (visible when you write a message) on the forum.

Preview your post so everything is OK.

Monaco Yellow afaik wasn't an American Standard color in 1988. It appeared in 1981 as one of the international colors.
It's possibly Graffiti Yellow which appeared on the Standard in 1988 having been available on the Plus for a while.
