So I thought I would just post this and maybe relieve myself.
Before joining this forum I was constantly kicking myself for not buying a '71 4 bolt neck Strat from my uncle for $800,which he ended up getting $10,000 for on e-bay.After joining and talking with people that has passed. So on to my new obsession. 1957 AVRI Strat, which I am actively saving up for.Well know I want the new '08 American Standard,A new American Deluxe,The '57 I mentioned earlier, and I want to load my '02 HWY1 with gold hardware where do I start? HELP!
Do I get the '57 first as originally planned or do I go for the Standard cause it's a little cheaeper? Ahh too many choices too little money

IMHO, GAS is just a replacement for not playing as much as you would like. Play more guitar  be happy with what you have  save your money.

very true.
3 kids eldest is 10, all in bed by 9pm. spent £8000 on gear in that time not including strings, straps and leads. £3000 sof that since christmas when my youngest was born. Before i had a family i survived quite happily with a 95 squire series and a old 50watt marshall head (about £1100 total)
A headphone amp would of been way cheaper.

If it's a true G.A.S. attack you have the overwhelming desire to BUY NOW! If this is the case, get the one you can afford now. Then start saving for your next attack.

currently seeking help.

seriously, im far too obsessive.
Think its time to get gigging again. The most i ever bought whilst gigging 3 times a week was batteries every week and a pedal once every 6 months.
I think performance leads you to use gear you know you can rely on.

Haven't bought anything in quite some time. That's not to say I don't have a wish list . . .

Baritone guitar
Electric 12-string
Vintage Fender Esprit
Princeton Reverb RI
Mesa/Boogie 5:25
Stratocaster VG
Cyber-Twin SE
Vintage TS-9 Tube Screamer
Vintage Uni-vox Uni-vibe

But I'm happy with the great gear I already have . . . sort of.

Anytime a new idea pops into my head, I don't rush out and buy it. I sit on it for a few months, let is stew up there, if it's still there in 3-4 months, more than likely it's a good idea, and it's a go.

Granted, this doesn't apply if it's below a certain price-point. Say, why I'm about to get a Damage Control pedal based only on Miami Mike's recommendation in another thread.

G.A.S. = 20 guitars/basses:

1. Squier Affinity P-bass
2. Squier Standard Fat Telecaster
3. Ibanez Artcore AG75TBS
4. Johnson JG-622-E
5. Ibanez JTK2 Jet King
6. Fender Standard Telecaster
7. Squier Bullet Special
8. Fender So Cal Speed Shop Strat
9. Fender Standard Precision Bass
10. Epiphone PR100
11. Epiphone PR350-12E
12. Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90
13. Fender Standard Stratocaster
14. Fender Bass VI
15. Gibson Les Paul Faded Double Cut
16. Peavey JF2 EX
17. Epiphone EB3 SG Bass
18. Gibson Les Paul Melody Maker
19. Fender FSR Straight Six Stratocaster
20. Fender Standard Stratocaster

I'm also planning to build a lap steel (mostly Gibson parts, originally intended for the Epiphone LP), and a 12-string "Telecaster Deluxe," which will put me to 22, with those two. I've also been eyeballing (drooling over) a Reverend Warhawk 390, and a Dean Palomino, as well as somewhat seriously considering a Gretsch Electromatic Junior Jet I. There's also a couple of alternate Telecaster ideas I'd like to bring to reality, so yeah...I've got it BAD. Oh yeah, and I would really love to add a Fender '72 Telecaster Deluxe to my collection.

Matt

I've got an early-1971 4-bolter ... if you had gotten it, you wouldn't have been able to sell it. They are pretty nice.

When did you pass that one up, how long ago?

Well thats the thing also is that I most likely would have not sold it.I wouldn't have had any idea for the most part what it would be worth. My uncle bought it strickly for investment .Needless to say he's glad I didnt buy it.This would have been about 4 years ago. And I know this may sound kinda silly but not really cause it's all what feels good to the player but he had both that guitar and the '02 HWY1 which I now own at the same time and when I would go to his house I always ended up playing the HWY 1 more.It just felt nicer to me.

I can believe that, because sometimes an old guitar just feels like ... well ... an old guitar. My '71 has been refretted and that gives an old guitar a new life!

I know this is going to sound like corporate horse stuff but IMHO Fender is now building the best sounding and playing gits ever. At times it makes me scratch my head and wonder at the prices for this "vintage" stuff.
Specialy if it's some unplayable wreck. When a MIM or a better Squire that would play rings around some could be had for a couple of hundred bucks. New!!! Granded that there are some that if I just had a boatlaod of dough....... Peace. J.J.B.

The guy that ended up buying the '71 has a collection of about 50 Strats and belive it or not was searching for 20 years for a four bolt '71.I think my uncle said he came across one other one but it was not in decent shape....or it was a 3 bolt. My uncle bought his off the original owner,so the guy who has it now is the 3 owner of that guitar. So a few years after I could have had that guitar for $800 I bought my HWY 1 from my uncle for $550 and I really love it :D
