I haven't had any trouble with either my Deluxe TELE or my
Deluxe Strat. Actually, I can't imagine living without S-1 now. The
funny thing is that I had my tele for at least a full year or so
before I discovered the little button was there! I had originally
thought that the "s-1" was just the physical pot or wiring!!!

Hey guys, I've been considering saving up for an MIA Deluxe Strat for a while now. Played one in a store and felt right for me. I've heard many people complain about a poor constructed S-1 switch. Have you guys ever had any problems with it shorting out or not working at all?

I've heard some people complain about the S-! switch, but I don't know how common of a problem it is. I have the Deluxe for about 8 months now, and I've had no problems.

You know......you could probably use this site to find an Authorized Fender Service Center near you. Give the tech a call, or go down to see him in person, and ask how many Deluxes come to him for repair on the S-1 Switch. If anybody would know.....it would be someone like him, who fixes Fenders for a living.

I had a Deluxe for 2 years. Never had a single problem with the switching system.

I thought I had a problem but maybe not...
I was noticing what I thought was a click when toggling the switch.
Turns out I experienced a dead spot between the 2 & 3 position.
Only when going from the humbucker & middle single coil (my hss strat).
Slowly moving across from pos. 2 going into pos. 3...
All of a sudden, No SOUND. So I have been attempting to "play through it"...
Last night I started just toggling the switch back and forth... over & over again...

Then tried to get it to occur & it wouldn't after doing that.
So in my case it might be just a "breaking it in" kinda thing.
If it comes back maybe I will try a cleaner on it or actually getting it looked at.
But I love the s-1 switching & I love this hss fmt strat!

the only problem that i've ever heard of with s-1 switches are that the locking mechanism breaks. then the switch wont stay in the on position.

i know that those types of switches break like that, but it doesn't affect the wiring at all, its simply a mechanical problem.

i've actually intentionally broken a few of them, to make the switch a momentary button, to be used for a killswitch and other effects on guitars.
