Many MIJ strats have the Model Number stamped in the neck pocket or on the bottom of the neck.

If it's a made-for-the-Japanese-market (not for export), look for something like ST57-60 ... the 57 means a 1957 Reissue and the 60 would be the original price in Japan (60,000 yen).

Me? I don't have anything recorded yet. I'm just getting around to getting what I need to do recording so it may be a while yet.

Thanks for the info. I've never removed the neck but the guitar tech must have.

A great source of info on '80s Japanese Strats is:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/john.blackman4/index.htm

Hope it helps.

I love my '86 Contemporary with System I trem.

I bought mine brand spankin' new on Nov. 1, 1986. I kept breaking strings using the trem and lock. I took the lock off and replaced it with two string trees which was how the few available American Strats were configured. I remember thinking at the time that it wouldn't affect the value of the guitar since it was Japanese and could never be collectable.

Who knew?
