I just ordered and was shipped a Classic 60s player Strat and I was wondering has anyone else had an Issue with the Fret Board being absolutely Filthy Dirty brand new out of the Factory box ? I have used 2 applicators of Fast Fret to clean the board . They both are black with dirt direct from the board . When you play the guitar , it leaves a black residue all over your fingers that is concerning me. I changed the strings and cleaned the fret board and its still not totally clean. The body of the guitar was perfect and not dirty at all but the finger board was just disgusting . Any fellow players out there with a similar Exp? I paid almost a grand for this guitar so I was a little disappointed to see this.

Was this a new unopened guitar or can you tell from the packaging that it was opened and re-packaged by the seller? I have never heard of a new guitar coming from a legitimate seller with that kind of problem. Regardless of what happened, you need to take this up with whoever sold you the guitar and avoid doing anything to the guitar (like cleaning fretboard!).

One thing that comes to mind is stain residue from the fretboard. That hasn't been a problem with Fenders in the rosewood times, but maybe they stain some of the pau ferro fretboards?

Contact the seller - even though that FastFret use may influence their response.

I'd clean it with Zippo fluid, then do the usual oil treatment. But DO NOT DO THAT before all possible warranty issues have been checked, and you decide you will keep the guitar.

I ordered the guitar from Guitar Center .com and I tracked it via UPS and had it shipped to the store . I went to pick it up and the Store associate unboxed the guitar with me before I brought it home . It looked AMAZING and I was excited to play it so I took it home and I noticed that when I played it , my hands got filthy dirty and I thought it might be the strings but as I cleaned it up more , I realized that the fingerboard was covered in " Soot"?!?!

I bought a little more cleaner and now its perfectly clean . I was just wondering if I was the only one who has had this problem ?Their are a few fret buzzes that need to be fixed but other than that , this thing is a dream come true . I love it ! Thank you all for your help. :D

I have had new never-played guitars that left my left-hand fingers black after the initial playing. I always attributed it to something that was put on it as part of manufacturing. Honestly, I never thought too much about it ...

Yea . That's the 1st thing I did because I thought that the strings were what was causing it , but I found out that it was def on the fret board .

I always understood Fast Fret to be for string cleaning, not fretboard. Not that I have any now; I dislike the bits that come off the applicator and cloth and get stuck all over the strings! But whatever, I don't think it'd help with your problem (appreciate you've solved it now).

Cheers - Peter.
