How does the Standard Strat® HSS by Fender compare to a guitar by Yamaha?
I'm very very new to guitars and would like a good one. But I can't spend alot on one.

Thanks so much,

-Matthew

I'm gonna have to go with fender on this one.

The Yamaha is just a copy, and is somewhat cheaper, plus your getting a fender quality standard strat WITH a humbucker, one of the most versatile guitars ever made. The Yamaha might have a better metal sound but the fender still wins hands down.

Can I look at the Yamaha model you were suggesting?

I was not really looking at a specific model in Yamaha. But my Grandfather has one and he loves it. But I have been told not to buy a guitar that comes with an Amp. The guy who is going to teach me to play said I should spend $300 or more for a guitar. I'm going to talk to him today about it.
also, is the Standard Strat® HSS a good guitar? I just want to make sure before I set my mind on it.

Thanks,

-Matthew

I'm guessing its a Pacifica, seeing as they are all HSS.

But I would second the Fender. In my opinion, looks nicer and is easier to mod than the Yamaha, if you should ever want to replace the humbucker or something. The standard series are good, probably better than the Pacificas of the same price range.

Go to your local music store and look at all the guitars. Try them until you find one you really like.

I was looking at this one..http://www.yamaha.com/guitars/products/ ... 3D,00.html
But all of the reviews said it was "Okay, but get a fender"

But I guess the Yamaha one is not the best...
