Hi all, I came across this old Strat a couple years ago. Unfortunately it's been monkeyed with but still a pretty good guitar. I know for sure someone changed the bridge and suspect they added the pick guard. I'm trying to find the exact year and possibly value for it. Your help is appreciated. Serial is A025935 .

This guitar has been modded with a Seymour Duncan Invader pickup.

Has tons of blink182 mojo on it.

The serial number and the general looks of the guitar date it to eighties; 1984 might be possible but 85/86 are more likely. There could be a more precise date in the neck end/pocket, and an autopsy might also tell more about the originality of the electronics, pickguard etc.

A top condition, original Squier like that might sell for over 500€$£, but this one is modded, and it isn't generally in the "mint condition" class. I think something like 200<400 monetary units, depending on where it would be sold (US cheapest, EU or Australia on top).

A nice piece of history, and it has the "Japanese woodworking tradition" aura & mojo.

The Invader humbucker was an aftermarket mod since the guitar has Tom Delonge/blink182 guts thrown in.

Another detail is the addition of a bare-bones input jack in place of the 2nd tone control.

This guitar is unique as it blends a Tom Delonge model with an early-to-mid 1980s Dan Smith Standard.

No body route for the jack plate. Unless it was filled and refinished (thinking unlikely), the control arrangement was likely factory.
I've seen a few 80s/90s Squiers with that arrangement.

You're right. I had the pickguard off and there is no routing for the input jack or for other pickups. I'm guessing someone set this up for heavy distortion because the action is so low its hitting the frets and it has the 'Invader' pickup which I found to be quite muddy sounding.

Also it was missing one vintage style string tree, so I stuck those 2 on.

I have a pair of Invaders on my Randy Rhoads V.
I like them for their intended purpose.
When I bought them (in 1984) the salesman tried to talk me out of it... "You only want those if you only want to sound like Mick Mars..." SOLD!!!!!!!!!

The previous owner was apparently a blink182/Green Day fan and decided to build his own version of Tom's single humbucker Strat since the Invader caters for high-gain distortion tones for which the two punk-rock bands are best known. But Tom's own guitar uses only a single volume pot, 70's large headstock and the traditional recessed face jackplate, so I guess this guitar is a nice blend of two different animals from two distinctive eras.

Aha, that would suggest it's the ST331 model. What's the scale length?

If I measure from the nut to the end of the strings on the bridge its 25.5. I've never measured a guitar before though so...

OK. Let's say it's a "Contemporary Stratocaster H". model number 27-4700 then.
The huge Squier Specs pdf floating around the web says it was introduced in 1987, but it already shows in the 1985 Fender price lists.
And you got the date from the neck, so let's believe the reality.

The Invader humbucker is not stock.

Though the bare-bones Standard was officially discontinued in 1986, the investor group who purchased the firm from CBS the previous year had apparently decided to use leftovers for this model.
