So here’s the thing, I’ve recently bought a shed load of guitar parts from a seller locally. Included were 3 necks with Fender on the headstock, now one is very obviously a fake however I have a strat and a tele neck that I’m struggling to indentify with my limited Fender knowledge, if anyone could point me in the right direction or has any ideas I’d be very grateful.

I'd be very surprised if the forum could ID a neck without pics. So:
Quote:
First you need to upload your pics to the internet.
Use a pic hosting site (imgur, imgbb or such - avoid photobucket) or some common web framework like e.g. facebook, googlephotos - whatever you're familiar with.
The important thing is that the web site provides you with a pic address - that's the one starting with 'http' or 'https' and ending in '.jpg' .

Copy the pic address, and use the IMG-command (visible when you write a message) on the forum.

Preview your post so everything is OK.

And even with pics, it's going to be a tuff job, since necks from many models have the same or very similar features.
You may get some pointers and opinions on legit/fake, country of origin etc; but very seldom a 100% certainty.

You make a fine point, I was waiting for this post to be approved so I could add some images, thanks for explaining how.

Any help at all would be appreciated, I’m really uneducated when it comes to Fender’s production history.

Hi there and welcome.
Not worth much possibly a knock off or low end.
You can tell by the truss rod hole.
Still if they play well what the hell. :D

The Tele style neck could possibly be off a Squier Affinity Tele. The neck has been refinished with a gloss tint to make it look like something older and potentially more expensive, but the grain figuring betrays its cheap and cheerful origins (the grain figuring is butt ugly!).

The Strat style neck reminds me of Mighty Mite necks because of the aperture for truss rod adjustment.

Neither neck has any great intrinsic value.
As Jimmy James said, if they play well then what the hell :D

Well wasn't I taken for a fool

Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated for that one! This is true, the tele neck played lovely I must be honest so I'll be using that in future.

Looks like I need to watch out when buying guitar parts from shady characters who claim they don't know what they are... More fool me.

Because replacement "no name" necks and guitars are so cheap, and legitimate Fender necks so expensive by comparison, this seems to be one of the most prolific guitar scams on second hand sites going.

You can buy a new neck for £60, a decal for £5, blow it over with lacquer, perhaps drill it and knock it about so it looks used, and double your money.

I may, or may not, have been had in buying a second hand "Fender" neck which I really can't decide if it is legitimate or not.

I wouldn't worry, we've all been had over at some point! And all the other bits and pieces you bought have probably meant that you got a reasonable deal all told?

I'm just buying a cheap-and-cheerful project bitsa Strat. The seller similarly doesn't seem to have extensive knowledge of the guitar, but at least he says the body's non-Fender, and the pics show a Squier neck. I'm hoping no-one would bother to fake a Squier neck - but who knows?! It arrives in the next couple of days, so perhaps I'll be posting similar pics soon...!

Cheers - Peter.
