Hey guys, and thanks for the membership!

My brother bought this guitar from a pawn shop while visiting the US some 10 years ago, and was told that this was a original strat. After 10 years of being doubtful i decided to take it apart, and couldnt see any serial number or anything that could identify it. The only thing that i could make out was the bridge which read "sung-il".

Here's some pictures:

Thanks alot in advance!

Definitely not Fender.

I don't think there's even any Squier there.

Doesn't look horrible. I've seen much worse copies. (Outwardly -- the body routing is functional but very poorly done.)

Might sound good and play ok. Or even sound and play great.

But if he paid Fender prices, he got robbed.

I think someone modified the neck pocket - look how the paint is missing there, but visible on the pickup cavity. Further, someone's been naughty and pushed those pole pieces.

Agreed - the pups seem to be AlNiCo, and the rest of the electronics could be from a Squier. Can't read the text on the pots, but if it says "A500" or "B500", that would point straight to Squier pots.
BTW, somehow I get a feeling this could be a Korean Squier, early nineties perhaps - but that's impossible to confirm since the original markings, logos etc. have been destroyed.
