This is currently being sold and I'm looking into it. It looks like its a 66 based on the patents but the neck looks more like a MIM and the body doesn't look so attractive either. What do you think? No serial on neck plate either

These tuners are stamped with a G

Has the three patents and original contour pat.

Absolutely not a '66.
Absolutely not a US-made Fender product.
Plastic truss rod adjuster insert is more modern Mexico or Asian production.
8-screw pickguard is not correct for a '66... would be correct for a 50s model, but it's not on of those.
12th fret dot spacing is incorrect. That is likely an Asian neck.
Sunburst pulls inward at the elbow relief, likely disguising a plywood body.
Rear of the body is solid black... genuine would be a matching burst, the solid black likely hides a plywood body in the "tummy" cutaway.
Center screws on the tremolo cover are reversed - Not a Fender trem cavity cover.
String trees are not US Fender.
The tuners *might* be the script "Fender" with the lettering worn off. This could possibly mean that this is a Squier.

Outside chance, it might be an Asian Squier, but if it were, the headstock decal would indicate so. Also, the lettering under the "Fender Stratocaster" part of the decal is not right. While a better picture would be helpful, I'm 90% confident in saying that is an eBay waterslide decal that was applied to a neck of unknown origin.

Value - $75-$100 and not a penny more. You can buy a new Squier Bullet for $150.

No sweat -- you've spared yourself some *serious* indignity.

No way was that POFS worth a grand!

I am still at a loss as to why anyone would pay that much for that guitar. The choice at that price is vast, why would someone buy that?

I can only assume they knew nothing about Strats and thought it was a Closet Classic that they would turn around for a tidy profit. That will teach them assuming they don't sucker some other poor fool.
