I have been able to narrow it down to either '73 or '74.
What's the basis for that conclusion?
I mean, I know the basics about old Far-East guitars - enough to know (if a guitar comes without a stamped/scribbled/stickered date) those are a PIA to date.

Instead, accept the challenge and see if you can't help them smile.
Well, you gave me a big smile there with your Freudian slip; that fantastic movie is called Time Bandits...

This instrument was on its way into a dumpster when I first saw it. And now it will get to live on and hopefully bring some happiness to someone who might need need to smile. And in that gentleman, is where I find my reward!

That's perfectly fine by me. Saving wrecks is a worthy cause, regardless of if they're high priced vintage guitars or mail order cheap ones.

Yes I can see how that would be.

A little tip ... when bowling into a group of Fender enthusiasts it is probably not best to proclaim you have something that is obviously an original Stratocaster or, if not, so good a copy that Leo himself couldn't tell the difference.

That sort of thing can put peoples backs up and might make you look like a bit of a ....

I'm sure if I went on an Ibanez forum and posted a picture of a Squier Classic Vibe insisting it was obviously some rare and sort after Ibanez (assuming there is such a thing) I'd probably get a similar, if not worse, reception.

You have a nice day now.

Touche sir. On a friendly note though (see what I did there), my initial approach was an honest and effective way to determine if this page was in fact occupied by gentlemen (or women) who know their stuff, which I've found affirmative. Or if it was just another page like the others I've sought information from on this particular instrument. People who are full of themselves and handing out information that is completely useless. You wouldn't believe some of the responses I got.
So in conclusion, I did get the answer and information I was looking for here. And in finding that this K32 is somewhat worth giving a facelift and a second chance, i absolutely believe that I have indeed

Found Treasure!

Thanx again guys!

Oh ya... We've probably all received responses that were off base, overly critical, and irrelevant. I don't believe you got anything here but honest answers that were helpful.
Keep in mind that this is an international forum. Stratele52 in particular is not a native English speaker, so somethimes his responses come across as being very short and rude, but that is not his intention.
I tossed in possible value information because the situation you described could be construed as it was something that you would want to sell. There is a $2000+ difference between the value of a CBS Strat with a large headstock and 4-bolt neck (pre-1971) and a generic Asian copy.

Try to find a vintage-specific forum and get the general opinion. "Restoration", and especially DIY efforts at restoration or facelift can significantly impact the value.
While to you it is just a small piece of history and something that will bring someone else enjoyment, it is possible that it actually does have some significant value. Restoration attempts will hurt that value. I'm not saying it is, but this old Kay could be worth a few hundred, and a DIY refinish could leave it worth only a few bucks. Even if you and I only view it as an affordable gateway to introduce a young person to music, it would be a shame to devalue it.
