I agree 100%. OK so this particular example looks a little rough. But I bet if Jeff Beck recorded a song with it, people would suddenly want it. A well-built guitar is not dictated by the name on the headstock. If Eddie Van Halen didn't record iconic albums with this guitar, it would probably be valued similar to the one above:

Returning to the original line of the thread the OP came up with this comment "If it's a fake I'd have to say that someone was trying to fool Leo Fender himself".
With a comment like that the OP is either deluded, or trying to have a laugh at us for whatever reason.
The OP has now gone away, likely as not never to return.

If it had been a Fender the OP would have had a very good idea as to the age of the piece, which is alleged to be the reason for starting the thread.
Monetary value of the Mystery VSLO rarely came up in any of the posts, and I for one think it should remain that way.

EVH's Frankenstein is worth a small fortune, as is EC's partscaster Blackie. Jimi's Woodstock Strat became a very expensive item.
The point is they're all valuable solely because of their provenance.

Actually that's not true - Blackie would be worth a fair bit parted out, and Jimi's Strat anything up to around £5500.00

Frankenstein's value is wholly down to provenance.

It is never the most diplomatic approach strolling into a group of enthusiasts and experts announcing you have found something rare and wonderful that couldn't possibly be a fake and, if it indeed was (which you doubt because you know about such things), it was good enough to fool the absolute expert on the subject.

Appearing at a Ferrari Club near you a man in a Ford Fiesta insisting it is a Ferrari sub compact prototype.

I am still confused by the reference to The Queen.

However, getting back to Partscasters and home builds of no value (and Queen - see what I did there) there is always Badger May's Special.

Perhaps she has a particular interest in vintage Strats. Funny, I've never heard it mentioned before. You would think something as unusual as that would have come up on this Forum previously.

I wonder what her particular favourite is? The rare 1977 pancake laminate version perhaps?

I think Her Majesty might like this Epiphone. She can afford to upgrade the pickups.

"One doesn't play Epiphones. Charles, Charles. You like ugly things. What do you think of this guitar? No you can't borrow ones 77 Pancake Strat to go jamming with Elton John "

Aww c'mon, guys… Now I can't get the image (of Her Majesty shredding a Strat) out of my head… Well, it would be better than fox hunting for a hobby.

On the guitar, and re: the Ibanez connection. This guitar bears some resemblance, but then again it doesn't fit "1:1-perfectly" any lawsuit Ibanez I've seen.
And taken into consideration the shape the guitar is in, missing logos & markings & pedigree, I don't see how this could rise to the "vintage Ibanez lawsuit" price class.
(Apologies for the OP if you don't like that, but I call it as I see it.)

There were literally dozens of Japanese/Korean (etc.) guitar brands, so this time I won't even risk a wild guess. Timewise, I'd lean to early eighties more than any seventies.

These guys were a lot nicer to you here than they would have been on the other fender forum.

I agree, a good catch with the Kay, Theriddler. Kudos.

So, to sum it up: made in Taiwan, mid-seventies to early eighties, economy/beginner level guitar.

Got spot Theriddler indeed. Well done that man.

Treasure indeed. Apparently these were so good that Leo himself couldn't tell the difference between that and one of his own. And The Queen has one.

Astonishing what you can learn off the interweb. It is undoubtedly The Information Super Cul-de-sac.

And to think I was going to suggest you would have to pay me to take it away...which is what happened with the OP.

Well played Sir! Thank you! Since seeing your suggestion, I was finally able to do some guided research. And yes, natural blonde Kay. Only thing I'm having trouble with is finding any pics of one with a white pickguard. However, I have been able to narrow it down to either '73 or '74.
Once again, I'd like to thank you for the information and your efforts.
As for the rest of you ass-bandits... Nice try breaking my spirits but your gonna need to club-up if you plan on trying to bring me down. ;) This instrument was on its way into a dumpster when I first saw it. And now it will get to live on and hopefully bring some happiness to someone who might need need to smile. And in that gentleman, is where I find my reward!
I hope you all have a pleasant weekend. Thanks again to all of you that helped! And remember, try not to be an ass-hat. You never know what kind of day someone might be having. Instead, accept the challenge and see if you can't help them smile. Even a little one has the power to change the rest of their day!

By the way, my lack of Fender knowledge is due to me being an Ibanez owner/player. I have an ol' Fender acoustic I practice with from time to time. But man..., that Ibanez sounds sweet! Good day gentlemen....

You got nothing but accurate and polite information, the term "ass-bandits" is uncalled for and offensive to those that gave you honest and accurate answers.
You asked what year it was expecting it to be a Fender product. It is not a Fender product, therefore, nobody was able to provide any kind of dating information.

Good day.

Yes I can see how that would be.

A little tip ... when bowling into a group of Fender enthusiasts it is probably not best to proclaim you have something that is obviously an original Stratocaster or, if not, so good a copy that Leo himself couldn't tell the difference.

That sort of thing can put peoples backs up and might make you look like a bit of a ....

I'm sure if I went on an Ibanez forum and posted a picture of a Squier Classic Vibe insisting it was obviously some rare and sort after Ibanez (assuming there is such a thing) I'd probably get a similar, if not worse, reception.

You have a nice day now.
