I clean out and remodel rental properties for a local rental co. here in town. I'm always finding things to repurpose or give another chance of making someone smile. And being a musician, the other day I came across quite a gem that made ME smile. I'm having trouble pinpointing it's exact age. It just so happens to be a pre-'77 Strat!
I'm curious to see if someone here might be able to help me identify "him" before I make an attempt at making "him" young again. Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanx in advance.
Jeremy

Did you manage to get it off the floor without a fork-lift truck? If so, it's a fake! Cheers - Peter.

OK, let's give the guitar a chance. Here's how to post pics on this forum:

Quote:
First you need to upload your pics to the internet. Use a pic hosting site (imgur, imgbb or such - avoid photobucket) or some common web framework like e.g. facebook, googlephotos - whatever you're familiar with.
The important thing is that the web site provides you with a pic address - that's the one starting with 'http' or 'https' and ending in '.jpg' .

Copy the pic address, and use the IMG-command (visible when you write a message) on the forum.

Preview your post so everything is OK.

LOL that was my thought.

Finding a 70's Strat is a bit like finding £5 and then thinking "Shame it wasn't £10".

But as noted above let's give it a chance. Enough people bought Strats in the 70's that some of them must be good and I do know people who have had them from new and still use them today through choice - yes I know it is hard to believe but there you go.

Wow! I didn't expect to see so much response so quickly. Thanx guys! I apologize for making y'all wait. I work alot. Any help dating this guy will be greatly appreciated.
Keep in mind I said "pre-'77". Based upon the 3-way pickup switch and also the pull-out POT switch. Not to mention this thing weighs a ton. And has an absolutely sexy grain pattern accented with gorgeous inlays. If it's a fake I'd have to say that someone was trying to fool Leo Fender himself.
I'm not very computer savvy so please let me know if you're unable to view the photo album. And once again, thank you all for your assistance.

Thank you for your opinion sir. What attributes helped you conclude your hypothesis?

I've been doing very intricate woodwork for the better part of 3 decades. I've came across replicas of just about every kind of wooden items you can imagine. If this guitar's a fake then maybe it was the Queen of England they were trying to fool.

Neck plate is not the same length below the screws as above the screws (I have no idea who made that plate, I've never seen one like that, maybe from a bass?)
Grain on the headstock... Fender only did maple necks except on more modern custom/FSR models.
Hole in the body under the neck plate (common on Asian bodies)
2 middle holes on the trem cavity cover are not offset properly... they are either straight across or angled the wrong way (look straight across)
12th fret dot spacing and size is incorrect, that is an Asian neck.
12 hole pickguard. Fender used 8 and 11, there were some 10 in the transition.

OTOH, the tremolo claw is simply upside down (which makes setup a it tedious), and I don't see a grounding wire connected to it.

I wouldn't even say it's a fake... this one is not even trying to be a Fender. It could be an Ibanez from the lawsuit era in the late 70s, in which case it might still be a good guitar, but it's not a genuine Strat. It's more likely just a generic Asian Strat copy.
It's not likely worth more than a couple hundred, and by that I mean $200 max.

I'd go as far as to suggest I would be hard pressed to say if any one thing in any of the pictures had ever seen the inside of a Fender factory.

As an experienced woodworker I am surprised you would consider the quality of work indicated in the photos to be of an appropriate standard for Fender. I am underwhelmed by everything I can see here and am confused by the reference to The Queen.

Or worse, finding what you thought was a 70's Strat and discovering it isn't even that.
