Hello all,
I am new here, but have a question about a guitar I have.
It is a 3 color sunburst American Standard as far as I can tell.
It has a E3XXX...serial number.
When the neck was removed, the neck was dated 12-3-86
The neck pocket is stamped "February 26, 1987" It also has some black marker that is "(some letter can't make out) S J4"
Looks like standard vintage pickups.
It has a tremsetter...which started my confusion.
I thought only the 'Plus' model had those stock. I definitely don't have Lace Pickups.....

Just curious if you guys could shine a light.
Thank you in advance.....

Why are you sure the Tremsetter is factory stock?

Otherwise on ID'ing the guitar, pics please.

I actually don't know if it is factory. I assumed it mainly because of the hole drilled in the body, it 'looked' factory....but yeah, I am not sure of that at all.

Thanks for your response!

Here are some pics...not sure if they will show up....

You can get the pics to show straight on the forum with the (https...jpg) pic address and the IMG-command, like this:

The electrics have been changed, or at least the caps have, so I wouldn't use the electrics as a point of reference. Otherwise the rest looks pretty legitimate to me.

Whether the trem setter is original could perhaps be checked if the screw holes are different to a conventional claw. I don't know if they are or not though.

Personally I don't think there is any great merit in whether it was or wasn't a Plus when it came out of the factory. It has been modified and is what it is now.

It got the micro tilt, the original trendsetter, two-point American Deluxe bridge and a TBX tone pot.... very similar to a Strat Plus. Lace Sensors, at least the ones with that Strat, weren't that good, so it has been probably re-fit with other pickups (I did it in my Strat Plus). The first ones came around that same year, but they had a Wilkinson Roller nut, replaced by another one much better a year after because the Wilkinson wasn't that good either. So, it could be replaced also. Looks like a modified early Strat Plus to me....

Thanks for all the feedback.

I was just curious, once I cracked it open, some things just didn't line up in my head...but I like the way it feels and plays, so really that is all that matters...just was curious ...

Thanks again!!!

Yes, that's what I was thinking too. Can't quite see whether the block is the chamfered one fitted to the Plus, but it looks like it. I binned my Tremsetter - looks like someone found it...!

Be interesting to hear Xhefri's thoughts...

Cheers - Peter.

This is my first Tremsetter....can't say I am really feeling any difference.....I take it since you threw your's out, you aren't too fond of it....could you elaborate?

Thanks, Peter

Only that I didn't feel the lurrvve, Ravnoss! I like a floating trem and having a 'detent' in the action felt strange to me. So I removed it, put a standard claw on it, and another spring to make three.

I have to say I like my Strats free of what I consider to be gimmicks. Yes, OK, I did buy a Plus back in the day - and I loved the Laces, lockers and Wilky nut - but the Tremsetter was an innovation too far! I'd still have the Plus if I hadn't completely worn it out and didn't feel inclined to spend money on it. I'm sure there are fans of Tremsetters out there, but I'm not sure the devices have been discussed much on this forum. Or I've missed it!

Looking again at your pics, it must've had some mods, I think. The body LOOKS like the earlier (and current) shape with larger edge radii? The Plus and other 90's had more squared-off edges. Yet the two string trees belong on a 90's and there's no sign (as I see it) of a roller nut ever having been fitted. The swimming pool rout is 90's, but looks more neatly cut than any 90's Strat I owned. Could it have been re-bodied, I wonder.

But I'm no expert. Just thinking of the Plus and several other 90's Strats I've owned over the years. Doubtless someone else on here will be able to place it!

Cheers - Peter.

Thanks Peter, I appreciate your info....I think I am a bit of a strat in its natural state myself....whistles and bells I save for my shredding guitars, though my shredding is well below par....

I love the feel of her, and am enjoying it right now, have only had it a few weeks....so i may move toward pulling it and putting the claw in....but I have other strats that don't have the trem, so it is kind of cool having one with it, from a horder's point of view :)

Plus, American Standard, modded, whatever it is....I think I'll keep her....

Thanks again, have a good one!
Tony
