My best bet is back in the case. One night I may be drunk and knock the stand over on the floor!

It is an occupational hazzard.

 I am very sad to report that the nitrocellulose finish on my Fender FSR American Vintage '62 Stratocaster (Tropical Turquoise) has been "yellowed" and darkened by the foam supports on a 3-guitar RockStand by Warwick which was advertised as "safe for all finishes." I'm now using a towel to cover the foam. Beware.

If the 'darkened yellowing' is merely a surface stain, it may be possible to buff it away using some mild rubbing compound, followed by a quality automotive-grade paste wax to restore the luster.

I have a MIJ 68 reissue , body and neck nitro, I got some black furry case lining material from a music shop and wrapped all the rubber contact points with it..........never had any problem

+1

That's what I'd do.

I bought some furry plush socks made for guitar stands, and they have served me well. I can't remember where I bought them, alas, but they work great.
