I keep seeing stands that say....Not safe for nitrocellulose-finish guitars. What stands are safe for guitars with a nitrocellulose-finish?? What are you guys using for your MIA strats?? Fender has a few folding stands that look like they would do the job, yet they dont specify if they are safe for nitrocellulose-finishes. Last thing I want is to damage my new baby..

Thanks guys,
Jay

Hello Jasonsorge,

I put a sock or neckerchief
on those rubber pieces.

Freinds of mine use felt

It's a fact some of that
rubber will leave a mark.

Cheers.

A brand called " On Stage Stands" makes some fine stands that are nitro safe. I have several. 8)

I'm using a Warwick Rockstand. I have a Highway One Strat and Les Paul BFG on it, both have nitro finishes and have no marks from the stand.

I don't have any guitars with a nitro finish, so no problem for me. But if I did...I'd shop around for one of those stands that advertise themselves as "Nitro safe". That way you won't have to worry about it. I see stands advertised like that, everywhere.

Do you have a link??

I see tons of stands , none of them have specifically said..."Safe for Nitro finishes". I have stands from On-Stage aswell as some from Musician's Gear, some have that neoprene for the pads and some of them use surgical tubing. I just hate having to put it in the case everytime I have to do something....(answer phone...get a drink..etc) I keep it in the case when I'm done jamming for the day anyway. Its just 10 time easier to set it on a stand when I have to do quick stuff. I will keep a look out for a stand that says " Nitro Safe" or just call Musician's Friend. Thanks guys for all your input. :)

Ok.......I just checked the Musician's Friend website (www.musiciansfriend.com ). What I found (searching for guitar stands) is that some of the stands will say, "not safe for nitro finishes". Many others, will not have that warning. I'm assuming that if there is not that warning, it would be safe for nitro finishes. But of course, you can get an uneasy feeling by "assuming".

Anyway, if you are near a guitar center, they sell a $20 guitar stand which is safe for nitro finishes. About two years ago, I picked one up for a buddy of mine, who lives far away from any music shops. He plays a Gibson ES-333, which has the nitro finish. It has not caused any damage to his finish.

If you go to Guitar Center....ask one of the sales people about a stand that is safe for the Nitro......they should be able to pick one out for you.

I've got 4 of these little jewels and you just reminded me I need another (new American Deluxe Strat arrives Thursday). I leave my guitars out quite often. They're up against a wall, no traffic but me.

They're not cheap, but they state the use a secially formulated foam to protect the finish. (although they don't mention nitro).

They're made well, very sturdy and stable, pack up nicely, and have not harmed the finish on any guitars, including the nitro'd Gibson.

What is it, chloride that leaches out of some of the foams that attacks the nitros?

Well just so you all know, there isn't a stand on the market that is approved for Nitro-cellulose finishes. It is purely " Use at your own risk". I spoke to Musician's Friend, aswell as with the people at Fender, none of which would say..." Yes, this stand is approved for Nitro-cellulose guitars.

The stands that are made for or by Fender are not approved for use on thier own guitars. :? Both advised me to put a towel or felt between the guitar and the stand to prevent damage to the finish.

So in a nut shell.....No one wants to be liable for damages that may occur, so stands are use at your own risk, some will tell you up front not to use them, some wont say anything. If you are worried about your finish becoming damaged by the use of a stand, use something in between the guitar and the stand.

If you having been using a stand for ages and its worked perfect with no damage to the finish, god bless you!! :D I on the otherhand will use a towel between the two to prevent the risk.

Thank you all for your input, I truly appriciate it.

Jay

A T-Shirt or Sweatshirt over the stand will protect your guitar too.
