Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Fender serial no checker makes R65279 a Custom Deluxe, maple neck, 3TSB.

I have a Fender dealer-bought 2012 Custom Deluxe and it's not a NOS-anything. It's a modern Strat with 9.5" board, med jumbos, block saddles, push-in trem arm etc. Only obvious CS adornments are the nitro finish and nice neck figuring.

So not what you're describing? Either I'm wrong (often!) or perhaps it's a case of the usual Fender dodgy record-keeping...?!

Cheers - Peter.

As Peter S points out, it's a serial number, coming up as "GBI11-55 CUST DLX STRAT NOS 3TS M/N".
Didn't find it as such on Custom Shop pages (the GBI seems to be Great Britain/Republic of Ireland marker), so it's probably best to email Fender Consumer Relations (via support pages) with that serial number, they can most likely provide the original specs.

BTW, if it's a legit Custom Shop guitar, it should have a COA for basic model/serial number info...

Thanks Peter, Yes your description is spot on! It also has a two point tremolo. I thought Deluxe Issue as well myself from this setup. But the Cert only say's NOS on it and nothing else at all? The guy want's £2,300=GBP for it so i said i would check it out first with you guy's. :)

Yes, 2-point trem as you say, with polished block saddles. There'll be a pic of it somewhere on this forum.

Dug out my COA, which says "Custom Dlx". No mention of NOS. Think I'd be asking the seller about that! Also remember that the Custom Deluxe was one of the cheapest CS (if not THE cheapest). I know prices have risen, but that Strat would've cost £1,699 new, so £2,300 sounds a bit steep. I love my Fiesta Red model, but I don't think I'd give that much for a used one.

Just to add that £1,699 bought the basic. Locking tuners, for instance, added a few quid. Some had them; some didn't. Not sure, but a 'burst probably added a bit more. You get the idea.

Still, if the COA business can be suitably explained and verified, a guitar's worth what someone's prepared to pay, I suppose...!

Cheers - Peter.

Thanks Peter, Yes locking tuners on this guitar also. And my offer would be around: £2,000 if it checks out A'OK 8) This guitar looks like it has never been played at all ever! Just kept under the owner's bed as I've been told? And I did notice that the other guy (jmattis) said "NOS" and 3TS in this bit: (GBI11-55 CUST DLX STRAT NOS 3TS M/N) And is the "55" for 1955?
Anyway thanks for all your help. :) Mick

Yes Mick, what JM says is copy/pasted off the Serial No checker, so for whatever reason it does mention NOS, although mine doesn't. Lord knows what the '55's all about either - the neck's said to be a '65 clone!

I agree it SEEMS kosher, although why it's different on the COA to mine, I haven't a scooby. I wouldn't have thought a Custom Deluxe could ever be described as NOS, but then who knows what goes on in Fenderland?! They did make quite a few different versions...

If it's in great nick as you say, well, I suppose £2k isn't too bad by current CS prices. It would've retailed at about £1,900 new - with the 'burst and lockers. It's just that as I've recently been offered £450 - £500 for an immaculate 3TSB AmStd which was up for £649 on Fleabay, I'm a little disillusioned with what you can actually realise for Strats! (No, I didn't sell it for that!).

Cheers - Peter.

Thanks Peter, Yes I agree with you on that. I also have an old 2012 American Standard, in mint condition and I have been told that £450. is the best price I can get for it now! I paid £650. for it back in 2016.

Thanks again, Mick :)
