Well I guess if you think I'm trying to be exactly like DG I could change the neck dozens of times like he did

If all you want is opinions about those particular pups then do a search like Ceri (politely) told you to. There are sevaral threads about EMG pups that go into great detail on the pros and cons. Just do a search and you will be in EMG heaven. I don't think anyone is critizing you because you want to know some opinions. Good Luck. :)[/quote]

Thanks...appreciate it...if I could delete this thread I would...lol

Easy, tiger. Nobody's out to give you a hard time or upset you. People are just a little surprised at the decision to buy an above average cost guitar with very particular specifications if it was something different that was wanted. Those are reasonable questions to express.

It's your guitar to do with exactly as you require. Pete Townshend plays a modded EC and it's fine for you to, also. But I was curious what attracted you to that guitar in the first place - and I still am.

On the EMGs. There's been gallons of ink spilled on those across this Forum: obviously it is down to personal preference, but the general feeling would be that they give a bigger sound with more "oomph", but less characteristic Straty twang. If you've a major problem with 60 cycle hum then a very useful option; if not, well many people, including Gilmour, would prefer something else.

How's that? Can we be friends?

Cheers - C

I recently bought an EJ Strat and a few months later, after borrowing a friends Anniversary Model with EMG's,started seriously thinking about swapint to EMG's myself.

I waited a while and then realized that I had spent alot of money and searching to fine a perfect EJ and it would have been stupid on my part to change anything untill I had played the axe for a while and knew exactly what I was doing and why.

To solve my problem, I went out and bought myself a mint used MIM Strat for $200 cash. I just ordered some replacment pickups and when they arrive, I'll be changing the pups, the bridge and the tome block.

I just think of the MIM as a"Play guitar" and the EJ as "Baby". I realized that I love the EJ just as it is and thats why I bought it. Loll!!

EMG my opinion of them is that they are not a good pickup for anything outside of extreme styles. I've got a 81/89 set in my metal guitar and i have just bought back my charvel from a friend who installed a SA set. First thing ive done is take em out in favour of the original weak charvel pickups. Terrible bland without the power of 81/89/60s and without the character of pretty much every major pickup manufacturer out there.
You could install em with the mid boost in that may add something to their sound, It certainly does to vintage noiseless.
How about bunging 2 SA's in and keeping a noiseless in the mid possition say. That could yield some interesting results.

Can't I get some objective advice??

Here go your objective, (subjective) advice.

Search the Forum and find my post on the DG-20 and read it.

Don't mod your Clapton.

Find yourself an acceptable MIM Strat and drop the DG-20 into it. For less than 1K US you can have the best of both worlds.

The DG-20 has a totally different voice from the Clapton. Having owned guitars with both powerplants I can testify to same.

You want the lyrical Gilmour effect.....DG-20
You want to blow the walls down....Clapton!

Doc

I'm just got a CS Eric Clapton Strat and I'm extremely excited about it...I got the black paint job and I love it...though I am a bigger fan of David Gilmour...NOW, I was looking into EMG DG-20s to replace the current Noiseless Vintage PUs in this guitar...what do yous all think?? Good idea?

Ah this is going to be my simplified/buget version of Gilmours' Black Strat...and yes I realized that Fender is relasing his signature model in September ...just a little too expensive for me :-D

My God! You're lucky enough to have a CS guitar! Why would you ever want to start changing out parts, as soon as you get it????????

Wait........if you're unhappy with that guitar..........I'll help you unload it. I'll give you $500 cash! (you won't have to worry about my check bouncing) Only because.........I'm trying to help you...... (will he buy that argument?)
