I had the factory nut replaced with a graphite nut on my Strat. The high E string was cut in 3/32" from the edge and the low E string was cut in at about 1/16" from the edge. Does that seam right or should they have been cut in a little further? When performing pull offs on the high E, the string tends to roll off the edge of the fret board.

Older guitars had the strings closer to the edge of the fretboard. More recently manufactured ones have the strings set in a little from the edge. Because of this, newer frets are usually shaped so that they flatten out more towards the sides. This causes the strings to slide off if you use a wider spacing. You could put vintage style frets on your guitar and it would probably solve your problem.

I would take it back and discuss it with your tech, unless you installed it yourself.

If you are not happy with it take it back to the tech.
