Wondering if anyone has any information on replacing Freeflyte tremolo? Keep the original bridge is not an option at this point. Don't mind working on to install different bridge.

disclaimer: it's non original. It's got an 86 neck and have already routed a bottom mounting jack (like a tele) and replaced the two knobs a very long time ago.

Cheers

Never done it, but AFAIK replacing a FreeFlyte requires routing the body for the chosen new trem.

Would be easier to just get a new body - could be cheaper, too. And if the guitar is an eighties Elite, new (temporary) body might be wiser in the long run & historical perspective.

BTW, (and I'm sure you saw this question coming), why isn't keeping/using the current FreeFlyte an option?

The Freeflyte was the precursor to the System I, II and III bridge assemblies, here's an interesting website containing all the necessary documentation related to these tremolo systems manufactured by Schaller in the early-to-mid 1980s.

If it's an 1986 neck it should normally have 22 frets.

In late 1983 Fender Japan did their own versions of the Elite and Standard models with a 22-fret neck and 9.5'-inch radius, which lasted until 1986.

Pictures may help a lot.
