Trying to see if anyone can identify the origin of either the neck or body of this guitar.

I'm pretty sure the neck isn't Fender (the "Stratocaster" text looks wrong to me, the nut is some kind of dark brown material that I've not seen before and there's no writing on the neck end or Fender logo on the tuners)

The only serial number is "2147" stamped into the neck plate. There's some print in the pickup cavities that doesn't make any sense! My guess is that someone tried to put together some late 50s lookalike.

Any thoughts or observations would be appreciated!

The black typeface on the decals is too heavy by far.
You have pictures of a genuine example of the forger's art.

At one stage the neck was modded with a locking after nut string clamp
The "stratocaster" looks like it was done with letraset the lettering is too bold

Tremolo cover plate is the later model (single slot instead of indvidual holes for the strings)

The pickups look to be inexpensive

At best it's a Squier that's been tinkered with in an attempt to try and make it look like something else.
The tuning pegs are fairly typical Far Eastern copies of Gotoh (itself a Far Eastern brand) machine heads.
The pots are cheap generic units, not CTS pots.
The pickups are a mix 'n' match - two ceramic magnet units, and one with alnico slugs.
The fret ends are sharp, and need a fair bit of work to get them feeling right.
The pickup selector does resemble an Oak Grigsby switch, but it's probably a cheap copy if the rest of the electronics is anything to go by.

Yep... That is a genuine Strat-Like Object that likely lacks any part that spent any time in a Fender Factory, except possibly the plastics.
The neck was at some time mounted to a body that had a Kahler tremolo, looks like it's been remounted a couple of times.

The neck pickup to me looks like a Highway One pickup

Certainly not a Series 2 HW1 as the poles are way too flat. I don't know about a Series One.

The plastic bits (knobs, trem cover etc.) look like Fender but I'm not seeing anything else that looks like it is. String trees look about the right shape so might be.

The neck is quite a twiggy bit of maple and not something I associate with Fender production as well as the logo being obviously wrong.

The body routs all look wrong for Fender as well.
